I guess this just may be a vent more than anything. I'm very close to getting banded but very frustrated at the moment. I need to have appt with the phsyc and I'm all done with the specialist visits and can get a surgery date. I scheduled my first visit with the physc in May. She said she normally does 3 visits (which my referral only had 1 visit) so that set me back a few days while I got my new referral. I finally receive it after calling many times and leaving many voicemails to the insurance person at my doctors office. So I go to schedule my visit and for weeks they tell me that the doctors schedule isn't in. I call everyday for about 2 weeks, not kidding. Finally I get a call back from the physc. 2 days ago. The intern she wanted me to see finished his internship so he's gone, she's leaving the practice and so is her associate and will not finish seeing patients. Grrrr! So I call back the insurance lady at my doctors office so she can give me a new referral. She calls me back today and faxes the new referral to a different physc and tells me that I need to get moving on this and schedule ASAP becuase with my insurance, my 6 months are almost up and then I will have to start the process over. I just can't believe it!!! I've come so far and I would really hate to have to start all over over lack of communication. I have left the new physc a message today and hopefully she calls back soon. I will stay positive but really!!!! :o

When she says 6 months is she referring to the dietary aspect of it? If so all you have to do is schedule an appointment with whomever was taking your monthly weigh-ins (pcp or nut) to extend it another month. Even if that means scheduling weigh-ins that you may not need to keep. If you miss a month of weigh-ins you will have to start all over. Don't panic just be proactive.

If shes saying you have to redo your specialist visits, those should be good for a year

Thanks for responding, it give me a bit of relief. My surgeon is the one I've been seeing monthly for weigh-ins, at my next appointment I'll make sure to ask. Thanks again!

Thanks for the input. That didn't sound right to me, but I sure will be asking at the next visit.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
