hi lea

good luck with your mush! it doesn't feel like it now but the weeks will fly by. How are you feeling? Any sorness? I just went back to playing netball after a month and a half!!

Sage Tracey do you find you have a lot of burping? or more kind of quick intakes or outness of breath? Seems to happen to me a lot, how many fills have you had so far?

Hi Jo and Lea,

I'm going really well. I've lost 30kg and enjoying restriction after three fills. 5.5cc in a 14 cc band. I get a pain in my left shoulder if I eat too much or too fast. Biggest challenge at the moment is getting enough calories in. I'm using My Fitness Pal to track calories and it keeps telling me I need to eat more or my body will go into starvation mode yet there is just no way I can eat any more in a day!

On a different note, I don't know if you watch Four Weddings, but our friends' wedding was on tonight's episode. It was the rock and roll wedding and my husband and I got plenty of air time with our dancing! We were wearing red shirts and I had a black skirt with colored music notes all over it. It was amazing to see how I looked before I started this journey cos I can certainly feel the difference when I'm dancing!

How are you both going?

Tracey

oh tracey no i didnt see it, do you know if it is online? i would love to see it.

I had my first restriction last friday and i haven't felt a lot of difference, everything i have had has gone down, i feel like i get fuller quicker but dont stay full for very long. i kinda get an ache in my back if i eat to fast, odd where the pain crops up!! What sorts of food are you eating? I cant wait to get more restriction! I lost a lot to begin with but it has realllly slowed down lately, frustrating me abit, think I am too impatient! Need some ideas for what to eat!

Hope your both well!!

hi to some fellow Aussies

im just starting to the road to my new life, my surgeon will be Prof Paul O'Brien so i feel very priviledge to be done by such a pioneer as he is, certainly in safe hands

i have my first meeting with him next friday, must say things are moving reasonably fast since i decided to do something, so hope once i get a date it will go just as quick

good luck to you all

Hi Deb!

I am so excited and impatient about my first consultation.. october 14th seems so far away! could you tell me more about what actually happens at the first consultation?? also, do you know how many consults/ visits there are before the actual surgery??? i havent been to my consultation yet, but theyve already pencilled me into the surgery list just incase for the 28th of november! so i just wanted to know what all we would need to do before the surgery day!

all we did was chat really, prof o'brien went over my family history - from prefilled sheets they gave me & also from asking me questions, he went over the blood tests, asked what i have done to lose weight b4, diests exercise etc, i had 3 sheets of questions i wanted to know & between prof o'brien - his wife eve, renate & the nurses there i got my answers

he asked me when i wanted to get done - gave me a folder with stuff to do etc etc, a pedimeter which i have had to wear for 2 weeks & record how many steps i do through the day

i saw the nurse first, she took vitals etc, then i saw prof o'brien, then eve & renate for odds & sods

dont see anyone until i go to hospital 6.30 am 21st November, sorry i cant tell you anymore

Deb

ps i am very impatient & time is going quick

you can park underneath the clinic so dont stress about trying to find a car park :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
