Close friends have been told but there is no way I would ever share my health issues with those with whom I work. I think I'll get wierd stares (too) when i eat small portions and no sugar, etc but that will be fine. I am POSITIVE when I'm off work that the gossip will be flying (I'll be off for 5-6 weeks) but I really don't care. My health is more important than their yapping.

Sorry guy's I need to vent,I am do to have my op on July 25th . I have told a few people that I work with that I am going to get the band.

Now they are all the food POLICE!! They tell me what I can and cannot have. Funny how they think they know more then me. I had a coffee with no sugar some low fat cheese and low fat dressing and greens.

Funny how when I had not told them about the Lap Band they would try to feed me all the time. Lol they all said to me that I do not look big and that I was crazy to get the op. What gives??

Sorry just had to vent.angry.gif

Same story here Drop sizes.....I've only told my immediate family....no friends at all. Tried to bring up the subject a few times and they said " you don't need it you're not that big".How else can I lose 60 lbs and keep it off (hopefully). I don't need any negative input at this time. It is a hard decision that I have made and don't want anyone to sway me in the wrong direction. I'm having my surgery done on July 25th also.....with Dr. Geiss.....you too!!! I'm going for my pre op tests Thursday. Hope all goes well. Good Luck.

I have had to deal with "food police" for years at my work since they all know I follow Weight Watchers, off and on. It is really aggravating to be stereotyped into what THEY think a 'diet' is. It's so very frustrating. For that reason, I will tell NOBODY at my work except for one other gal that had it done over 2 yrs ago (because I've been asking her questions about it) and one other that I talk to some. That's it!! I don't need added frustration to my day with the others being a 'food police'. I hope they back off from you and you can get some peace eventualy. :)

tell them you have the band and know what you can eat and thanks for their concern.

That's a nice way of telling them to mind their own damn business.

I agree with everyone here. I didn't want everyone knowing my business so I have only told a selected circle of friends and family making sure not to post anything to Facebook as well. Everyone who I have told has given positive support so I think I picked the right people to share with. :)

I had been researching Lap Band for months now, and have only just recently decided it was best for me. I didn't tell anyone I was researching or considering it. Especially my family.. I'm so close to them and I wanted to be so certain that this was what I was going to do that their reaction or opinion didn't sway me. Surprisingly, once I told them, they were so super supportive. I haven't gotten any, "you're crazy" comments. I'm not ridiculously huge, but I am a big girl and I know that I am not comfortable in my own skin.

Outside of my family, I've told 1 person and he's been super supportive as well. I don't think I'll be telling anyone else anytime soon. My best friends don't even know that this is something I'm doing. There are just things in life that are better kept between a select few. When too many people know you get so many mixed emotions and opinions if everyone is not on the same page (and they rarely are) and in going through something as life-changing as this, you don't need all that negativity and opposition.

Don't sweat the small stuff! You do what's best for you! All the best on your journey!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
