Does pounds/% to lose determine band?

Recommended Posts

I had my consultation earlier this week. When I asked what band my surgeon would use, he told me he couldn't be sure until he "got in there", but that he would guess a Vanguard 10cc band.

As I've been reading through stories of his past patients, there seems to be a trend among them that the more weight you have to lose, the higher capacity band you receive. Does anyone know if this is just me seeing a relationship that isn't there, or if that does have something to do with it?

Hmmmm...I would like to know that too! I don't think I need to lose but about 80 pounds which would put me at the top of my recommended weight. The reason I think this is because I am 61 and the older you are the older you look when you are so skinny. When I was 25 I looked great at 125, but I don't think I would now. Anyway...that is getting away from your question. LOL.

I think the size band used has more to do with interior anatomy than anything else. Which, of course, may correlate in some way to the amount someone has to lose. So you may be seeing a connection, indeed!

I agree. It's like when Always started making pads for plus size women:

Bigger panties --> bigger pad

Bigger stomach --> bigger band

I'd be interested to know if obese people have a much bigger stomach than the non-obese (obese-less? obesity-free? sans obesity? whatever you want to call it.)

I know of two women who, due to erosion, had to have their band removed... both were thin, one already at goal., and each of their doctors replaced the original band with a VG. In addition to the VG being better for those with more internal fat, its also designed to reduce the possibility of erosion, etc, so more and more docs are using it. (My doc said he's using the VG on everyone nowadays)

The different band size is determined by the internal stomach size.My Dr told me after my op he had no choice and had to have the smallest band.I had approx 66 pounds to loose.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
