Newly Banded in Texas

Recommended Posts

Hello

I just wanted to introduce myself as newly banded in Texas. I had my band surgery on 1-11-2006 by Dr. Benavides at the Richardson Surgery Center. I cant say enough about the Doctor, his staff and the wonderful care they provided.

:clap2:

Everything has gone smoothly except I have this rumbling in my tummy. I just finished the stage 1 clear liquid diet and have moved on to stage 2 of mush/blended. I am scheduled for my first fill on, of all days, Valentines Day. I am wondering what to expect after my first fill...Should I save the money and cancel my restaurant reservations for Valentines Night or will I still be able to eat? :hungry:

Well, from what I've read it might be a good idea to go on liquids for a couple of days after the fill to give your tummy a chance to adjust. Sorry. And BTW, welcome to LBT and Bandlandia.

I was actually thinking that she could save the money and use it on a comfy little get away place for the evening, but I'm just thinking like a man, right???

Hi , and welcome to LBT.

I know my doctor has me do liquids only for 24 hours after a fill. Good luck!

I'm in Texas too - same office, but I had Dr. Jayaseelan. He is awesome. We have to be on liquids for a week starting the day of the fill. Go out with your "love" but eat Soup (actually if its the same day, you may not want anything at all). I get my first fill this afternoon. I'm nervous and excited.

Jen-Jen, welcome! I had my first fill on 1/17 and was on liquids that day, then mushies and back to solids. Honestly, I didn't feel much different after the first fill but everyone's different. I hope this second one creates more restriction!! I'm having my second fill on 2/14--so I'll be eating Soup too. Good luck to you!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
