livingmydream 6 Posted July 6, 2011 I am just about four weeks post-op. I am eating, but can only eat a small amount. My doctor will not fill at all when initially banded. I am fortunate to feel the restriction I need to not overeat. Can anyone tell me if this is "too good to be true?" Does this feeling go away? I hope not, because it's working for me!!! Thanks in advance for your insight.
Rachel412 116 Posted July 6, 2011 Restriction without a fill is normal after surgery. You might lose that restriction as your swelling goes down, or you might not! We do have bandsters here who have no fills and are doing an amazing job with just an empty band, so you may be one of the lucky ones
YngGram 73 Posted July 6, 2011 Count it as a blessing. There may still be some swelling, and as you drop the weight the band can loosen. Just remember to stay with the protions and overeating shouldn't be a problem. Drink your Water and get your Protein in and you should do well. Congrats! Thanks in advance for your insight. Sounds normal to me. I didn't get my first fill til 8 weeks post op. I had lost 44 pounds in that time. That fill was only 3cc (10cc band) and didn't change my restriction one bit. A month later I got another 2cc and had lost another 11 pounds. I never actually felt restriction until 5 months and 6cc. I consistently averaged 10 pounds a month for the first year.
Chela 5 Posted July 6, 2011 That's definetly a good thing, and I hope to say the same in 3 wks time. My surgeon doesn't start fills until 8 wks either.

Thanks in advance for your insight. I am 9 days out and am also feeling restriction. I thought it was from the swelling, but my surgeon told me yesterday during my visit that it was simply having the band in place. My next appointment isn't for another month so we'll see. I am a VERY compliant patient so I'm doing exactly what he tells me to do. No starches whatsoever!!! No potatoes, cream of wheat, oatmeal.....RATS!
