I was sooo wrong about water aerobics.

I finally got to do my first WA class this morning, and man... you guys were right. It's a lot more work than I was expecting! The class is 45 minutes and all done with the float-y dumbells. Lots of kicking, jumping, lifting. I really underestimated how much work it would be. It was a GREAT workout and I moved parts of my body that arthritis just won't let me move when I'm on land.

The weirdest part was getting out of the pool when it was over, it felt like I was gaining weight as I climbed the steps and I almost had problems walking on the pool deck. Amazing how the Water takes so much pressure off of you.

Thank you to everyone here who told me that it was a good workout and a good choice for me. The class was big- maybe 20 women? And I'd say half of them were young- there were some really fit women in there, too. I wasn't too young and I was actually probably one of the biggest there (hard to tell since we were all under Water ;)).

Rachel, I love it! I am glad you had fun. I love WA! So glad it helped with your arthritis! You are rocking along in your weight loss. Congratulations.

Yes, harder than it looks. As you progress you can also ask the instructor ways to make the moves harder. Does your pool have lighter and heavier weights for the pool? If so after a while you can move to the heavier ones.

I love Water aerobics! Unfortunately most times it's old ladies and men. The last one I went to they just talked all the time and it was terrible. They distracted the instructor and stood in the way when they were supposed to be moving. It's good in that you can make it as hard or easy as you want. I have the gloves that increase resistance and they say that the tennis shoes to wear for water aerobics really work well too. Just wish I could find somewhere to go that I enjoyed and felt like I was able to get a good workout.

Great news, i'm going to go myself. My joints are so painful since my chemo, I need something gentler a few days a week.

I am happy you liked the class, I love them. The best thing I think is that you can tailor the moves for whatever ails you. You can step it up or down depending on how you are doing/feeling that day. I also have arthritis (hips and feet) and I find I can do all the moves I just have to be careful on the landing parts and remember to come down lightly and correctly. My favorite classes are the deep Water classes, no impact and you work your a$$ off literally. Good luck and keep moving!

You can also google zumba class locator and refine your search to aquazumba. Its a Very good workout and easy on the joints. Zumba instructors also tend to be very energetic and the music is good too!

I'm super excited, I found a Water zumba class in my town and I'm headed there tonight. Thanks for the info, I would have never thought of water Zumba.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
