July 8th Surgeon appointment

Recommended Posts

I will be meeting with my surgeon Dr. Quinlin at UPMC Saint Margaret to see what test I will need to retake. This is my second attempt to have lap band surgery I was going to have it last year on July 29th, but I freaked out and canceled it. My insurance company says that the diet that I did last year still qualifies me for the surgery I just need to find out what test that I need to retake so that I can have the surgery. I am still a little freaked out, but the fact that I failed to keep the weight off that I lost last year has made it easier to move forward.

I started my own diet and exercise program on June 6th this year which was my 48th birthday so I consider that my reborn day. I joined a gym and have been adding exercising to my program I even went white Water rafting for the 4th of July and I have to say I am feeling good. I have already lost 20 pounds since the 6th of June and I am trying to stay busy and focused so that I don't loose track. I have a lot of people telling me not to have the surgery, but I do not want to fail again and I want to be healthier.

My partner has been very supportive and he has been joining me at the gym as well he is very healthy, but he is being very supportive and is very loving. As the dates get closer I do have my fears, one of the things I have not been doing is reading every post on this site on a daily basis. When I start reading every ones post I start to get nervous so I have reduced the amount of time that I spend on this site,l but I still educating myself on the process and trying to take the good with the bad and making the right choices in my life.

I appreciate all of you that have been responding and enjoy talking to you and look forward to a long last friendship with all my fellow banders.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
