Wendiss 0 Posted January 27, 2006 I am sure this one has been posted 100+ times. Does anyone have any great ideas for a wholesome, healthy, and satisfying liquid one can have while in stage one? I’ve had my band for four days, been doing okay w/the strained chicken noodle Soup, skim milk, and yogurt drinks, but I am getting bored.:bored
PhotoNut 7 Posted January 27, 2006 Slim Fast has a great Cappuccino shake. I also enjoyed Swanson's vegetable broth. You should be able to have Jello too. Are you drinking Protein shakes? If not you should buy some all natural whey protien and mix it with skim milk and other flavorings. Its not so good alone. I used 1 scoop of strawberry flavored whey Protein and added 1/2 banana, 1 tsp Splenda and blended this very well. Until the banana was like pulp in orange juice. Just enough to chew on a bit. Then I let it sit in the frige so the banana would mix well and cover the whey flavor. Then, I stirred in an entire can of Slim Fast vanilla shake and this made two meals for me, with a total of 42 grams of protein. I've just purchased a huge jug of vanilla protein along with sugar free Hershey's chocolate Syrup and some sugar free syrups that are by the coffee in the grocery store. I'm going to be trying a variety of concoctions so I don't get bored. Protein Shakes will be a daily part of my diet now, for I don't want to lose muscle and hair.. only fat! joelnisandiego 0 Posted January 27, 2006 My doctor told me Clear Liquids only for the first 2 weeks! broth is OK but I bought some Isopure which is a clear Liquid Protein (fruit flavored). It tastes good and 1 bottle provides 80% of your daily Protein. Not a bad alternative. Also, I read where someone floated an onion slice in their beef broth while cooking to make it taste more like french onion Soup
Jessiebear 2 Posted January 27, 2006 When I was first banded, my Mom bought me some Ham Soup base & chicken soup base (powdered in a jar) that was out of this world! I also can't say enough about the Knorr boullion cubes. The chicken flavor is awesome!
the best me 6 Posted January 27, 2006 If you can do yogurt drinks, surely you can do Egg Drop Soup? That stuff saved my life! Just when I ran out of energy and thought I would sink through my chair, it felt sooo good to eat/drink that! Lots of protien. Warm and delish.
gentlespirit 1 Posted January 27, 2006 So Protein drinks are OK in the first few days? My doc said clear liquids for 48 hours then just liquids. I ordered some unjury Protein powder (choc and unflavored), so I might try that, too. Not hungry yet, but just getting ready for when I am. Right now I'm drinking Water, a little juice, and sugar-free hot choc in the evening. Emily
ReneBean 3 Posted January 27, 2006 My doc says CLEAR Protein Drinks are ok for right after the surgery (like Isopure) - then go to full liquids (heavier/milky stuff) after 5-7 days. But, that is just my doc. Yours might have different ideas.
justamom 0 Posted January 29, 2006 I've been banded 2 weeks and am starting to eat soft foods. But after the initial 3-4 days my doctor told me it was okay to eat thick Soups. I had green pea Soup (Campbell puree type - not the Progress chunky), cream of potato, the new Campbell select butternut squash. I had mashed potatoes and oatmeal - oatmeal was a really nice filling meal. I was careful to not eat more than 2-4 oz. (1/4 - 1/2 cup) at a time. Also, I couldn't down the Protein drinks. So I got the sugar-free Carnation instant Breakfast and Carnation Malt powder. When I mixed 8 oz. skim milk, a packet of the powder and a serving of the malt powder (3 Tbs.) it's about 10 gms of Protein about 230 Calories - similar to the Protein Drinks but no Vitamin smell or taste. cindylouwho 0 Posted February 13, 2006 I can't stand canned chicken, beef or vegetable broth. But I love Ramen noodles. I boiled two cups of Water and added just the flavor packet from the Creamy Chicken flavored Ramen noodles (tossed the noodles). It was yummy! Probably has a ton of sodium and other unmentionables, but when looking for something different during the Clear Liquids period, it was a lifesaver!
