Sex after Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

I know, this may be a stupid question. But how long should you wait to have sex after surgery. I'm afraid that i may have moved my port. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op. Just a little discomfort but no sharp pain. Help!

I was about 2 weeks out of surgery when I tried it. I was the same a little bit of discomfort but no major pain. I had my surgery on 6/17 and I have no issues now. :P

I don't think it is a stupid question. I will be having surgery 7/27 and I was wondering the same thing. I am glad you asked :D

Thanks for your responses. I feel better today. But I do think it causes a little discomfort.

I wonder how we would know if our ports have moved? I'm thinking it would be really severe pain, but then again I don't know. I have felt quite a bit of discomfort after sex, but wasn't sure if I should be worried or not. You definitely had a legitimate question....not stupid at all!

Thats great. I asked my rep the same question last week. She said the question was posed at a seminar she was helping with. The dr said " Hummm. We would like you to wait till you leave the surgery facilites, but whenever you feel like it..... go for it".

When ever your ready. The pain in your port area is just the healing process... we all went thru that and still do. Every now and again, you will have discomfort in your port area. I'm 17 mts out and still have port pain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
