I generally don't.. sometimes I do a few sips. Mostly, it's just uncomfortable, makes my stomach feel weird. The food goes through pretty quickly I wouldn't worry too much about "washing it down." I try to eat, then I drink when I'm done. I've just gotten used to not drinking.

i never "time" my liquids prior to eating, but i absolutely can't drink anything when i eat, because it sits on top of everything in the pouch and without fail the pressure makes everything come back up!

My DR said it was OK to drink during your meals. So I do, but only small sips and just a few to keep my throat from being really dry!

Well,,,, I don't feel so O alone now !

For the most part I don't drink with meals but I don't have a problem if I do drink with meals. If I'm out to eat I usually drink because there is Water in front of me and I think I kind of forget, bug haven't had a problem. When I'm home/at work I don't bring my drink with me so I don't do it. But I do drink right up to eating sometimes and I wait usually minimum of 30 minutes after

My surgeon's office says it's ok to drink up until eating, then don't drink while eating, and then wait 20 min after eating before drinking again. These are their revised guidelines that just took effect about a month before my surgery. I have been pretty good about following that, but I did drink a few sips of Water the other night at a restaurant because the food was a little spicy. It didn't cause any problems. I was banded on 6/17 and have not had any fills yet, so it could change for me after I have a fill.

My doctor said no Water 30 minutes before eating, none when eating and to wait 60 minutes to drink after eating. It was difficult for me at first as I was used to taking a bite, taking a drink, taking a bite etc. I now have adapted to this process and it is working for me.Good Luck.

I was told the same as Lilium.

It has been hard to break the drinking habit, but I can see the reason for the rule, and I am working on it. I used to have probably most of my water or liquid with meals but I am trying to shift to drinking Crystal Lite instead of snacking.

I'm glad to read this post, since this issue has been on my mind. I haven't been banded yet, but I am a definite 'drinker' with meals, so it's good to know that I MAY be able to do a few sips during meals once I'm there. My whole thought process was how dry it would be trying to get it down without a sip or 2 of Water, or something. I'll see what works for me. :)

My surgeon said I could have a few sips when I eat, but that I might not have room.

What I have found is that sometimes it can cause things t shift and I'll get stuck. Other times, no problems. I have not found that I get hungrier any sooner when I've had liquids than when I haven't. I believe it is a bypass rule that just got transferred to us with no real study.

I've also found that over the past three years, I have just dropped the habit of drinking while eating because of the getting stuck issue. It just happened. Now, even if I pour myself something, I generally don't drink it until after my food is gone.

After being on this forum for so long, it seems the doctors are not in agreement on this topic. So, I found what works for me.

Thanks for this thread. I am on mushies, but was trying to get use to not drinking during a meal.

IT IS SO HARD! It is going to take a lot of practice to remember NOT to drink, especially at a restaurant..

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
