So tonight I decided to chew and spit a piece of bread. It's been a month since I've had any type of bread and it felt so good to just chew it and feel the texture. Anyone else ever chew and spit?

i did once. Don't make a habit of it. It is a serious food disorder. I did it with a fry when I was on clear liquids...clearly not my best judgment.

I have never done it, but I agree with Rachael. Don't make that a habit. That can lead to a very serious eating disorder.

I haven't done it with the band but it reminds me of a funny story when my friend and I worked at McDonalds as teenagers. We didn't want to "eat" calories, so we would do this with our lunches.....it gave us the "taste" of the food but we weren't ingesting the calories. Gross when I think back to it but it worked. THis was one of my many yo-yo weightloss attempts.

I did that yesterday! We were at a 4th of July BBQ and I wanted real food so badly! One of our friends had made these pork loin things on the grill and they smelled so good I just wanted to chew something for a minute! So I took a bit of the one my husband had and chewed it...it was sooo good. Then I spit it out cuz I don't want to mess up my band lol

No shame in doing this early on after surgery. I did it after two weeks of liquids. I was starving and wanted to eat so bad.. I chewed and spit a price of bread while everyone else was enjoying a picnic at the beach. Then I chewed a piece of sausage at a bbq the next weekend which was great because I was able to swallow the yummy juices of the meat then spit out the solids. Then that was all, never did it again. Waiting on my second fill now so I can really start losing some lbs!

I'm not gonna lie or play self righteous, I've done it. I'm newly banded and a few things that I'm just craving I can't have right now. I was banded on the 2nd and I had to do a pre-op diet and now a liquid diet so when I craved something that is clearly a no no then I chew and spit. Yes, it's gross but it's helping me cope with my strict post op diet.

Understandable - but long term its wrong on so many levels. But I think most of us dont need to do that when we're actually eating food, sometimes the craving for something of substance is enough to drive you insane. So, probably an entirely normal thing to do right now.

Chewing and spitting often leads to chewing and purging, IMO. If you crave something freaking eat it; it's not going to pack 10lbs back onto you.

Well, I do it all the time and I know it's gross but I am terrified of getting stuck on food. I have never been stuck before and I am not planning on it! If I can't get my food to break down to an oatmeal consistency; I will spit it out and try with the next piece. I don't have an eating disorder lol! I hate throwing up and that's why I spit! Oh, that looks nasty typed!

I think that's different. I know I've certainly been chewing on a piece of steak and not been able to break it down enough to swallow it - i'd certainly spit that out. I also think its different to occasionally chew and spit something when you're on the liquid phase - those cravings can get overwhelming, but as a general rule, if you're chewing and spitting regularly on regular food then you have an eating disorder! I agree, if you crave something that badly, EAT it for pete's sake. This is a lifestyle forever, and there's room for the occasional treat.

Having only been 7 day post-op I couldn't just "eat" it... Before my surgery I was on liquids for 2 weeks so it's been over 3 weeks since I've really chewed anything. I was craving the sensation of chewing.

Chewing and spitting often leads to chewing and purging, IMO. If you crave something freaking eat it; it's not going to pack 10lbs back onto you.

I was sharing with one of my friends, who had gastric bypass, that although I feel restricted, my mouth still wants to eat. She suggested chewing and spiting. I've done it once (that was all it took) and it cured my problem. I had forgotten about it until now. I agree, it cannot be a way to deal with overeating. But it worked for me that day. And it is disgusting; no doubt about it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
