Has anyone NOT had problems with the Lap-Band

Recommended Posts

I have read so much on the site and a lot of it is really helpful, but I really get scared when I hear about most everyone having so many problems. I know it isn't a bed of roses and I know we have to really work hard, but all of the negatives scare me. I look to have my surgery around mid- august , but I keep doubting my decision. If you have the band and things have went well, please let me know, I need to read about the good and the bad. Thank you and good luck to all.

i felt the same way as you do now.. just remember that this forum is mostly people that have questions/concerns/problems with their band. this is the place we all use as a support system. i've only been banded for less than 2 months but i have friends who have been banded for a couple of years and have had no problems whatsoever. and aside from the initial couple weeks of feeling like poop and being stuck on liquids, it's been really great and i am so happy with my decision to do it

What are you thinking of as band problems? Are we talking about issues that have to be fixed surgically, or just about people whose bands don't do what they thought they would?

I have only been banded for 3 1/2 weeks but my experience has been wonderful - no problems at all including surgery - I had a small hernia repair as well by day 5 I was on my stationary bike onlt took pain meds the day of surgery and a couple times the next day - 3rd day only when I went to bed and its been pain free since~

I LOVE MY BAND

No problems here either. I love my band! I just wish I would have done it sooner.

Thanks for responding, It was good to see that there are ones who haven't had so many problems. It is a little of both I guess, and I know that some think that the band will answer all their problems, but my surgeon has me completely beleiving that along with the band I will still be working hard on my part too and I am ready for that. Thanks again and Good Luck.

I haven't had any issues at all, and have lost 100 pounds in just under seven months. Most people who aren't having issues don't post, so you never hear about them. Relax, have the surgery, and be successful. Why worry about something you probably won't ever have to face?

Thanks for your reply. I just feel like it helps me to see the positives along the journey as well as negatives. Good Luck.

I haven't had any problems, either..........most of the people on the site have either just gotten their lapband or are struggling and looking for help....once you start living the life and things are going well you tend to drift away from the boards....I try and get on every few days to keep up, but it can be hard.

You have to make the decision that is right for you - we can't make it for you....and everyone's journey with the lapband is different. Good luck!!!

One year - 127 pounds, not one complaint, not a single problem.

Sure I have issues once in a while. I've been stuck a number of times and thrown up but ALL because of my own doing. Once I "really" learned to eat SLOW and take SMALL bites, that issue went away. I can eat anything, bread, steak etc. if I eat it correctly!

I agree, this is a place to put your issues and complaints out there and hopefully get a helpful suggestion from someone, so you do read a lot of negative stuff and when you are in the process it can seem overwelming.

Wouldn't give my band back for any amount of money!!!

Good Luck to you!

No problems here either. I LOVE my band. Glad that your surgeon is telling you that you have to work at it. I think some people assume this is a cure all, and it isn't. You do have to work at it, but it is worth it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
