I need to order some vitamins what all do you guys take?

Recommended Posts

www.wlsvitagarden.com for lots of bariatric Vitamin information. Be sure and do a search for the Vitafusion gummies, looks like the dosage is half of what we need and missing some necessary stuff.

I use Centrum adult chewables for my multi and my doc is fine with that, although he'd prefer that I use Bariatric Advantage.

Many of the obese (and formerly obese) are low on D because we don't like to go out in the sun (too hot, don't like to be in public, etc.), so I do take D3. I have my pcp run labs on me yearly.. my surgeon doesn't do lab work on his banded patients.

You may or may not want to add some Calcium. If you do take Calcium, be sure and take it at least 2 hours away from your Multi.. if your multi has Iron in it. Calcium & Iron interfere with each other's absorption.

B Vitamins probably wouldn't hurt, but check with your pcp.

Also, for those who take thyroid meds, Calcium can interfere with the absorption of that too; so that's good advice to take it two hours after everything else.

I personally take a multi, calcium, D; and I also take magnesium (recommended by my nutritionist because of some health problems that I had) and Iron because I have had problems with anemia since I was a teenager.

I ordered some liquid fruit flavored Vitamin called Reviva. It is sold at costco and Sam's (but my Sam's didn't have it).

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11622501&search=reviva&Mo=2&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search〈=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=reviva&Ntt=reviva&No=1&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1

There is a Multivitamin kind and a Calcium kind. I ended up buying from costco.com because I couldn't find it locally. I'm not a costco member, but I was able to buy through their website and pay a small premium (maybe $1.50 total).

Hasn't arrived yet but I'm hopeful that I'll like it :)

I like the Vitamins on BariatricChoice.com - most are chewable and taste great! The price is also reasonable on some of them. As far as the others...I'm not sure, my dr does blood tests that tell if you're lacking on a specific nutrient. If you are taking a Multivitamin specifically for someone that has had a WLS, it should have everything you need in it. But everyone is a little different.

For a multi Vitamin I think I'm going to go with Celebrate. Nutritionally it seems to be the most complete. Currently all I take is Vitafusion gummy vitamins.

Do I need anything else? Like Vitamin D or B?

Hi, My surgeon and nutritionist recommended Flinstones Complete (2x per day). However, I'm taking One a Day Women's Active Metabolism in the a.m. and the Flintstones Complete at bedtime. I also take Potassium prescribed by my cardiologist and a Calcium supplement.

My doctors just have me taking one Flintstones Complete and 1,000 mg of Calcium so I take Tums. gummy vitamins usually do not have any Iron in them so they don't recommend those.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
