Actual lap band surgery

Recommended Posts

So as my surgery approaches, I find myself more intrigued by the actual procedure! So of course I went to YouTube am found a video! After seeing how the procedure is actually done, it helps ease the fear. Hope it helps someone else.

my surgeon made me watch a video like that in his office prior to coming in to see me. It helped alot to see what was actually going to happen to me.

I watched the entire video with both hands covering my face, but it is nice to see what actually happens. I think the worst part for me was the sutures. /cringe

Jessica,

Your videos are so helpful. I especially liked to see the actual surgery. I'll probably be having LAP-BAND surgery sometime in September, and I'm so excited. I've been through a year long stint with a life coach (required by ins.) and that's up Aug. 16th. Have an appt. with the surgeon on the 17th. You have done a great thing making these videos--I'm sure they will help a lot of people trying to make a decision as to whether or not to have the surgery. Good luck to you and your husband!

Watching the actual surgery, I think really helps people understand what your body goes through.

Sure seeing a fake stomach with the band around it helps them see where the band is, but seeing a surgery helps people wrap their heads around it more.

I watched a few surgeries before and after I was banded which helped me get used to the grossness of it all.

I'm really glad I did it because since then I have seen tons of videos my doctor showed at conferences I go to and (though it is crewl) I didnt get grossed out when I saw him do a surgery on a pig in real life( well I didn't go into the surgery room but I watched from the room next door).

I think watching videos might also get people to understand more that they need to take it easy with eating foods post op etc because there is so much done during surgery.

Thank you for posting this video. I found it really interesting, and I completely agree- the suture part made me squeamish. But that's a really clear view of what will happen. Good thing there is anesthesia! unsure.gif

Wow! I cringed, while watching, just thinking "OUCHY!" But....at least it's a REAL view of what it actually looks like. Not such a clean look as with the fake plastic stomach they show us.

Thanks for posting. Very interesting.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
