I have no desire for food at all. I have had a little sugar free Jello which seems to work for me. The broth 5 teaspoons and that ended up a run to the bathroom. I am not vomiting, just spitting up the saliva before you vomit and then I am okay? Is anyone else having this problem? I drank 4 oz or so of a Protein Drink and that went down okay, The dr suggested Tomato juice, because of the high Protein and that ended up to another run to the restroom. Ice chips and small very small drinks of Water are all I can handle. Is what I am experiencing normal, or should I call the doctor?

Sounds like u are too full to me. U should be able to eat 1-2 cups of food and it fill u for 3-4 hrs. But call ur doctor. Id be worried about malnutrition and ur hair to start falling out if u don't eat something sooner than later. Good luck!

Tomato juice is high in Protein? I've never heard that.

I would just stick to your Protein shakes since they seem to go down ok. Do your best to keep fluids going. I'm on my phone so I can't see if you have a ticker that says when you were banded but if it is recently, I wonder if you might have some fill in your band from surgery. If so, you might have a hard time getting Jello down and just need to stick to thin liquids. You can also thin your Protein shake out a bit if it is too thick.

I was just able today to drink tomato Soup and I was just banded Tuesday. I was also worried because besides sips of Water I could not tolerate anything but popcicles, not even the Protein Shake. I am getting about 40 oz of Fluid a day which is much less than the doctor recommendation but each day I can do a bit better. Check with your doctor but I am listening to my body and not pushing.

It looks like you were just banded a couple of days ago? For the first five days or so post op I was only allowed to drink a medicine cup of liquids every fifteen minutes. The hospital provided me with half a dozen of the cups but they are just like children size medicine cups. I think they were equal to about one ounce. After those five days I was allowed to sip from the water bottle, or broth cup or whatever, and start my chewable vitamins. If you aren't already drinking like this, you might try it. Good luck!!!

Slow, slow, slow. It takes time. Just sip Water and Protein Drinks. 40 oz of Fluid is OK. My Doc sets a minimum of 32 oz per day. I always try to do more. I'm a month from banding and I still have to go very slow on everything including liquid. My Doc recommends a minimum of 60 mg of Protein. He says always drink a protein drink every day. All Docs are different. It just takes time to adjust. You may have to take sips every 15 or 20 minutes.

She got banded two days ago... not sure why she should be able to eat 1-2 cups of food yet. I was under the impression that it was normal to not want anything to eat right after surgery and to only be able to take in a very small amount at a time due to swelling. That was the experience I had... also aren't most folks not given a fill in their band at the time of surgery? I just want to be clear.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
