No/low Sugar

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the reason behind the doctors suggesting NO SUGAR on the post op diet? My doctors instructions are things like sugar free popsicles and pudding. Why can't i have some regular Jello? ?

I only know that sugar can trigger your appetite for more sugar and they are considered empty calories

yeah my doctor said it's just a time to get used to eating low/no sugar products. Then I got into it with him about the artificial sweetners and chemicals, saying that for the occasional treat (which Jello is for me, not big on sweets) I'd rather have natural sugar. I ate/eat mostly organic, I don't want those things in me. Oh, and for some people, the artificial stuff can make you bloated and gassy...not something you want more of right after surgery. But, listen to your dr, not me lol

They don't call it low carb, but the typical bandster recommended diet is low carb, which means high Protein, low sugar/starch/simple carbs.

I wondered the same thing! And if I'm only getting in a tiny tiny amount of food right now shouldn't I try for the 50 calorie Jello rather than the 5 or 10 calorie sugar free one? I just got popsicles tonight and I didn't get sugar free. I figure I'm not eating really anything anyway, it can't hurt. Maybe my mentality is wrong with this but the only "food" I got in today were the popsicles. I'm still on clear fluids and on day 5 post op.

In the post op phase I went for the sugar free because I am a diabetic, sugar was a no-no. After post op I went more for the no sugar added and cut out the sweets for the most part. I am working on cutting out added sugar and it's substitutes in my day to day life for the most part. I am developing a taste for things like tea etc without sugar and have stopped the Jello and pudding etc. I want to cut out the artificial stuff and keep the real sugar low. The sweet stuff is a real trigger for me.
