So I had the realized band put in 6/6/11 and the first week nI lost about 15lbs! I was eeling great about myself and the weight has slowed down. in the last 3 weeks I ahve only lost about another 5 or 6 lbs. not really happy. Feel like I'm eating what i should be ,but the weight is not coming off as quick.... Anybody have the same issues?

First 6 weeks is about healing, not about weight loss. Also 5-6 # in 3 weeks is normal weight loss. You should not expect to lose more than 1-2# per week. This is not bypass.

That initial fifteen was probably Water weight. That always comes off quickly. After that two pounds a week is good.

I'm a slow loser. I work out an hour seven days a week; and am loosing on average 1 lb week. You may just be one of those people who lose slower than others.

Weight usually comes off fast and furious in the beginning...don't get discouraged, it's still working!

I totally had the same problem, even gaining some back after the first month, but once I started getting my fills, the weight has begun to move again. so hang in there, it will happen. Just like another person had said, in the beginning, it's about healing, so don't get discouraged. It's totally normal!

I think your weight loss sounds on the higher end of normal actually; you're doing great! I was told that 1-2 pounds a week was realistic. Don't be discouraged, you're actually on the right path! Focus on your healing right now.

I had my band put in 6/13/11 by Dr Duncan's Team too! I lost a total of 23 pounds in the first 3 weeks! 18 the first 2 weeks and 5 the next. This week I have gained 3 lbs. I signed in today because I became so discouraged. HOWEVER, I am so glad to hear this is not unusual! Thanks for posting the quetions and for all of the great support!

The initial weight loss is Water weight. Most people will experience a large amount of weight loss in the beginning (even pre op).

But once you're a month post op and on to solid foods, it's going to slow down, but it's still coming off! Someone mentioned that this isn't bypass

and they're right. Bandsters average 1-2 lbs per week whereas a bypass patient averages a pound a day (my doctor said so).

Just be glad you're losing weight! I've read posts where people aren't losing at all. Keep up with that you're doing. It's working , trust me :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
