kimmy215 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Hi, I got my band on 1/3/06. I ended up staying in the hospital for a week after getting pneumonia and diverticulitis. Even afer going home, I was really sick for a few weeks. I quickly lost 15 pounds the first few weeks since I couldn't eat much of anything with the diverticulitis. Now that I'm better, my appetite is back!! At first, I could not eat much but now I feel like I could eat like I did before the band. I don't get hungry but feel like I can hold just as much. I haven't had any problems keeping my food down either. I am worried that I won't lose anymore. The scales are not moving now. I am eating mushy foods but they aren't real low calorie foods. Does anyone have any advice?:help:
Kim_8 2 Posted January 27, 2006 Geez Kimmy - that's a bummer! Glad you're feeling better now! I'm on mushy foods now, too. I keep track of my calories on fitday.com (free web site where you can log your daily weight and food eaten - it will calc calories / fat / Protein, etc. for you). This helps me keep track of what I'm eating to make sure I stay within calorie range. Haven't had a problem so far, but I can see that as the swelling goes down I'm able to eat more and more. I'm just sticking to watching the calories and keeping it at 1200 if I can... also the protein is supposed to be pretty key. Good luck to you and congrats on the 15 lbs... sorry it wasn't easier for you though!

nanahanna 1 Posted January 27, 2006 Kimmie, did you have diverticulitis before surgery? I also have it. I was diagnosed last May and have had 4 attacks since then. I keep antibiotics on hand and at the first sign of diverticulitis pain I begin taking them. I am still learning what I can and cannot eat. Seems to me the liquid diet at the beginning of the pand and right after fills should help with that. At least that is what I am hoping. Good luck to you!
