amjcal 5 Posted July 2, 2011 I was banded yesterday, and I can't feel my port. Is this b/c my tummy is so swollen? Also the nurse in pre op said she was going to give me heparin to prevent clotting, however my friend and I don't remember me getting it. Should I be concerned? Also around my biggest incision it is numb? Is this normal? Thanks
Jenn1214 120 Posted July 2, 2011 Don't worry, I couldn't feel mine at first either. Your biggest incision is where the port is. Mine is below my belly button, and I can only feel it if I lay on my back and press into my abdomen. The area is still numb for me too, but I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. As for the heparin, I got an injection right before surgery and two injections after (it was actually Lovenox, but they're similar drugs). When in doubt, don't be scared to ask! vlp1968 83 Posted July 3, 2011 I couldn't feel my port until I lost a significant amount of weight. Now it sticks out a little.
roziecakes 20 Posted July 3, 2011 I couldn't feel mine until last week. Now since I've lost some more weight, I can feel it. I have heard that some people have a hard time feeling it even months after surgery. As for your heparin shot, maybe they gave it to you while you were still out? I would say call your doctor to double check, there's no harm in asking I would think... congrats on getting your band! Hope all goes well for you
