5 days post band..is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I had my band placed Monday (6/27)..My stomach is extremely bruised around my incision sites. The largest site is about 3 inches above my belly button. This bruise is large, square, and very warm to the touch. I have pain here when I move and walk (not too bad maybe 4/10 on pain scale). It doesn't hurt when I am lying or sitting, but I can still strangely 'feel' it under my skin. I am assuming this is my port site. All my steri-strips are still intact, I can't actually see the incision sites. Is this normal? Will I always 'feel' this port under my skin? Thanks for any feed back...

I had bruising around most of my incisions. I particularly had a lot where the biggest incision was (port site). It was tender and took about 2.5 weeks to go away completely.

After my surgery I couldnt feel my port, but then again I didnt go pushing on my tummy searching for it because I was tender. Now that I am fully healed, I can feel it if I push down, but not if I am just laying or sitting. I have a lot of padding so maybe that is why I cant feel mine as much.

Congrats on your surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery!

I'm 7 days post op, and when I went to my doctor on Wednesday, I asked him about this. He said that eventually I wouldn't feel the port and all, and the itching and bruising would definitely go away. I've lost a few of my steri-strips, and the incisions are pretty small.

I have a bit of concern about the incision being warm to the touch. Call your doc and give them a heads up.

Sounds very similar to the way I was at 5 days post op. I am now 11 days post op and I still have a lot of bruising around my port incision and the one to the upper right side of my navel. I can feel my port, but only if I press in on my stomach. I guess I have enough paddng to cover mine up as well! Good luck and things will get better!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
