Fills...............Do they hurt ????

Recommended Posts

I am starting the saving and loan process to accumulate the funds to have the lap band, went to a seminar last night and finally made the decision to have the surgery but the only question left is..........Does it hurt when you get a fill??????????

Thanks

My feeling on this:

It stings a bit when the needle is inserted but is not "pain". It is a bit uncomfy when they remove all the Fluid and air and feels "tight" or has a bit of pressure but is not painful. It is a bit of a scarey feeling to have a needle boinging out of you as you sit up for a fill though. Not painful, but a little scarey if you don't like needles like me. My suggestion if you do not like needles, do not look at this one.

It is over quickly. And it is not "painful" as much as it seems to smart a bit.

Yeah, the lidocaine (sp?) hurts, but that is it. I was laying down when he did mine, so I am glad I didn't have to see anything.

when I get a fill at my clinic I hardly feel it at all, and they dont' use any sort of numbing agent, they don't need it.

Oh, and I've never had to sit up with a hypodermic hanging off my belly. Not once!

The fills are absolutely not a problem. My dr. doesn't use lidocaine because there's no need. I mean, you feel the needle prick, but I am a blood donor, and it's more like that than anything. No pain. I feel fine afterwards, just stay on liquids for 24 hours, and when you start eating, take it nice and especially slow. Good luck, Cindy

I agree with what Crystal said. I have only really felt anything once and it was like an intramuscular shot, annoying sting but no real pain. I've had 4 fills and never had to sit up with the needle in me. True, my Doc is only adding 0.1 to 0.2ccs at a time now, but he takes the needle out before I sit up and drink Water. No big deal: now if only it wasn't 1 1/2 hours to get there and another 1 1/2 hours to get back, I might not mind going so much. LOL

Doesn't hurt for me at all .. and I've never had a numbing agent. The first time is a bit uncomfortable, because you generally have yourself worked up lol. After that its a piece of cake, imho.

I never feel the lidocane (sp?) needle nor the saline needle. And, I've never had to sit up with the needle still inside of me. That's weird.

I get the Lidocaine, it doesnt hurt, just a bit of a sting but for meer seconds. I have had to sit up kinda, not really sit up but just raise my head like a mini crunch for him to acsess my port easier. No pain tho.

I just got my first fill on Wednesday. The only thing it was a bit discomfort when my P.A. was looking for the port. Then the needle pick..other then that not bad....

....In spite of my efforts to make fills a Big Deal....they really are minor for most of us....the pain of driving into the jaws of hell, fighting traffic, finding a parking spot, and escaping quickly before rush hour begins, is more painful and anxiety producing.....

and I have hurt myself worse with an insulin injection than Dr. Hong has done to me....

Just curious if you are excited about the new insulin inhaler. They say you only have to take a shot once a day. That's kind of a major breakthrough don't you think? I was just wondering how you felt about it.

Ihave had many fills and never once had a numbing needle. It has never hurt. I do find that once I have a fill it take some time before I loose weight again (body adjustment). I have had a lap band now for 3 years and have wonderful success.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
