Is it possible that I need another fill aleady???

Recommended Posts

Hi all!!!

I was banded on May 31st and I had my 1st fill on June

23rd. when I did teh gross drink, x-ray test my Dr. said I had good

restriction after she put in 2 cc's (I have a total of 3 cc's) However I

feel hungrier after this fill than before and I can still eat pretty much

anything and teh scale has not moved since June 14th. I can eat a

chicken breast on a bun and breadsticks or bread are not a problem for me.

My next fill appointment is the end of July as the Dr. is on vacation.

Should I try get in sooner, do I need another fill already?

Thanks!!!

If you're at a good fill level, you should feel satisfied after eating 1-2 cups of food, and that satisfaction should last 4-5 hours. You will not feel full, and the band's job isn't to keep you from eating any particular food.

Just because you CAN eat Buns, breadsticks and bread doesn't mean you SHOULD! You need to have a little self control. There's no magic number as to how many cc's will put you where you need to be. If there was, they would just put that much in the first time and call it a day. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. They put in a small amount the first time (in your case it was 3cc). The next month they will put in 1 or 2 more...then another 1 or .5 and keep doing that every month until you reach restriction. This way if you get too tight they have a pretty good idea how much to take out. If they just stuck 6 or 7 in the first time there would be no indicator as too how much needed to come out. It's a process and you need to be patient and gradually learn to live with your band. I understand that you are anxious and excited to succeed in your journey but you need to relax and follow the process.

My doc does fills every 6 weeks. No way am I waiting that long! I will go 4 weeks but that's the max. My first fill worked so great for the first week-then nothing at all!! I can eat a regular dinner with no problem. I do understand we need to meet the band halfway, but I had good restriction those first couple of days after my first fill-I couldn't finish my dinner or my drink...it was awesome! I wantthat feeing again and I know it will come with proper restriction!

I have heard of some people getting restriction weeks after their fill so there's still hope. The end of JUly isn't that far away. Try keeping a food journal. I know there a few good ones online.

Hang in there-your journey is just beginning!!

My Doc is pretty liberal with his fills. He says if "you're hungry" you need a fill. He just said be sure it's real hunger and not head hunger. I couldn't eat that much food in a day let alone for 1 meal. Will your Doc give you another fill now?

My doctor is pretty strict in the beginning. He won't do first fill until 8 weeks. As time went by and I became more familiar with the band and lifestyle changes he said "you know your body better than I do" and will do a fill whenever I want. I'm at the point now that I tell him how much to put in (or take out).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
