Feeling Discouraged..What's the point...?

Recommended Posts

Yes, thank you that does help. Sometimes all i need is a little encouragment to keep going... Question though.... Does every Bander go through a few months of this in the beginning? Does it ever get easier to eat less? If so, then what is a typical period of time before it finally starts to "switch on" so to speak...

hi..cheer up!!! too am sailing in the same boat...cant excercise much...weight loss has stalled....but we have to go on without giving up....

we have become obeses over the yrs thru our own negligence...so it will take time ,hard work and patience...all the best..

I'm having the same problem, banded the 4th of May and have only lost 20 lbs. I walk 4 days a week for 20 to 30 min and I bike ride 2 of the other days. Getting so frustrated. I have 2cc in my band and when I go to see my Sergon on the 28th of this month I'm going to ask for another fill. I'm ready to go back to my pre-op diet but I think I'll try the South Beach Diet first as I tried that a few years ago and I lost 45 lbs. I'll keep you updated on haw it goes. Anyways, good luck to you.

Ok, so I have become a LBT addict since discovering this site, and trully enjoyed being there for other banders and helping them with their questions, as I feel it has also been helping me...

I am sad to post anything negative... but I guess now I need some extra help....

I'm 3 months post OP and have been stuck at the same weight for 2 out of the 3 months. I have only lost 22lbs since my surgery. THIRTEEN of those pounds were actually lost in the 5 day clear liquid fast pre-surgery.

I'm eating only 1-1.5 cups of food MAX (from 2-4) and have switched to a lot of low fat options that I would not have done in the past. Just these 2 changes alone I would think would make me lose weight. I CONSTANTLY feel hungry and find it to be all will power and absolutely nothing to do with the actual band itself. I have to force myself to stop eating/picking and REMIND myself physically with a slap of the hand not to snack. I actually have to remember not to. I stuck a sticky note on the fridge!

Also, before I go on, I have to say that I am mildly disabled physically and I am restricted from most kinds of exercise, including walking unless taking pain meds, which I only like to take on desperate occasions...BUT, taking that out of the equation, I have spent more time on my stationary bike at home in the last month.... and STILL--NO--CHANGE. I've been up and down 2 lbs in 6 weeks totaling the 22lbs lost after weighting myself today.

I feel the band is not doing what they say it should do and now in a panic since I am getting married in 5 months and not even close to my goal for the wedding. Even another 30 would make me happy as a clam!

...If anything I feel as if the band slowed me down due to some complications... FYI they thought I needed my gall bladder removed (due to drastic diet change -- because of the surgery) and I have had severe abdominal pains ever since my first fill, so spent a total of 4 times in the ER since the surgery. Turns out I was able to actually HEAL my gall bladder with a special diet and the tests cleared in 3 weeks. After that diet I would have thought that I would have lost weight just from that... but not a budge on the scale...

Whats the point of the band again....?

the good part of the Water aerobics...is there is the side to hold on to if you feel you can't and your body is almost weightless. and as far as people seeing your deformities..People are cruel and they are going to find something to talk about...but at least if they talk about the deformities you know it is something you have no control over..unlike our weight! Good luck!

I'm surprised how much your exercising and still nothing.. Our bodies are so friggen weird! Yes, please let me know how that works. I have never looked into the South Beach Diet. I am happy to switch anything up just to jump start it all.

I know we all can do this. The bad days suck, but the good days to come must be phenomenal!

I'll be rooting for you, and checking back!

Good luck to you too!

Thanks sweetpea

I've tried my best not to think about it and just move forward, but I'm pretty sure that it's been my scared subconcious keeping my weight on all these years due to that fear.

The frustrating part is my psychologist that was assigned to me pre-surgery wont call me back and I was really hoping to express this all to a professional. After talking to you all, I am thinking I need to find someone new. I didn't realize until this forum how important it is to get that support.

BTW all...Today I got full off of 3/4 cup Protein Shake and 5 strawberries, with absolutely no appetite to go any further with my meal, as well as last night being presented with one of my fave comfort foods, taking 2 bites and deciding I had absolutely no interest in it....Maybe it's finally starting! :o:D

Right after surgery it was a piece of cake for me...well whoops...hehe but it was really easy I had no hunger, but after about a month or two...well I was eating quite a bit. It took awhile for me to get to my sweet spot because my fill Dr is located about 3 hours away. I think this was a blessing in disguise. My process has been slow but I couldn't be happier. I believe between the July I got my surgery and May of the next year I went from 270 to 220...and 20 lbs came off during the first 2 weeks....so, yeah it gets discouraging but just keep at it. At one year out I was down to 195...however my third bandiversary is coming up and I'm down to 125lb! My point is, never think you're on a tight schedule of getting this weight off. Personally, I think it's BS when these doctors say you can only expect to lose such and such amount. If you have this tool and take it slow and make it apart of your life then the weight can come off and it will in its own time.

I do love this forum. My doctor doesn't have a very good bedside manner and pretty much told me nothing. And I know my youth was on my side but I didn't really exercise that much, at least not going to the gym everyday. I mainly just made smaller choices like taking stairs or walking a few more feet. So I didn't lose my weight with strenuous exercise. In fact, it's only since the beginning of this summer that I've started really working out. I think you'll do great though, keep at it. And NEVER forget...sure you've only lost XX pounds...but imagine how hard it would have been to lose and keep that off without the band. Good luck!

And, in the Water you burn so many calories. Get on myfitnesspal.com or another website and track all food and excersise. I want to say water aerobics is around 300 calories for 1/2 hour. I can burn so many more calories in the water than walking! I had a plateau and the only thing that helped was to increase my water intake to 100 oz. or more per day. You may try drinking more water. Hang in there, when you get the right fill you will see the weight come off!

Thanks, I LOVE myfitnesspal! I originally found it to get a new ticker until I realized that it was a PHENOM sight that did all my calculating for me! I used to do it all myself.

I completely forgot how much drinking more water is supposed to help and have been really slacking lately. Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks so much for the positive information and inspiration :) Your right that I need to remind myself what it would have been like if I had not gotten it. I think I just need one more fill... I feel like I am ALMOST to my sweet spot, but not quite yet. Some days are harder than others. Sometimes I feel I just eat all day long and not stop and other days I feel like I eat like a skinny person and dont even think about it!

Thanks for the luck and congrats on your success!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
