My doc's answer on carbonation....love it!!

Recommended Posts

I have found I can no longer drink any carbination drink... not from the lack of trying... tried keeping the lid off, pouring from glass to glass. nothing helped. The pain that I have is just NOT WORTH IT. plus my favorite drink "diet cherry coke" just does not taste good anymore. way to sweet.

I know everyones body reacts different, but for me,,, it is out. as well as any citris type drinks... and Margarettas..........

I have sips of soda from time to time but never a full one and never more than a sip. The carbonation is a bit rough on me now that I am banded. Probably a good thing because I love soda way too much and that could have easily been a big hang up for me.

I really don't miss my diet cokes. As a matter of fact, I took a sip of my hubby's the other day and it tasted NASTY!

I've had 3 margaritas in the last year (frozen) and they were sooooo yummy! Just sips though. If I drink anything cold quickly, guaranteed PB.

My doctor says pop is a no no for me but I occasionally have it. It doesn't bother me at all when I drink it. One thing I do notice is it makes me feel really crappy. I hate the way it makes me feel. So when I want pop I pour myself a little glass and it satisfies my cravings.

Cheers! Hope it goes ok! I have only tried the diet coke and that was with alot of ice so it was kind of water-down! But I am going to try the Gin & Tonic this weekend!

We are too much alike! What is your sign? I am a Taurus! This is scary!! LOL!

This has nothing to do with the thread, but I like your signature about tatto's. so so true.

I don't know what to believe about soda. Many doctors say different things. I had stopped drinking soda for a while, and recently started drinking semi-flat diet soda, I wish there was more concrete proof, about it's effects on the band.

While I miss my diet Dr. Pepper... I am terrified of the needless pain and possible danger I may be putting my band in.... so I just say no.. Now, if I could say no to chocolate!!!

My doc says carbonation is ok to have, but if I even have one teensy sip my tummy hurts so bad I can't stand it!

Oh, that's just mean!!!!

Soda was my biggest vice before the band. I don't miss it. The pain is just not worth it.

My doc says NO to carbonation for a few reasons. It's not that it "hurts" the band. The band is pretty sturdy, but carbonation does have the potential to stretch your pouch. That is one problem. 2nd problem is that sugar, even the artificial kind messes with your blood sugar levels and your insulin levels and will make you hungry later on. Then you eat, and gain weight or don't lose. Simple. 3rd is, the swelling of the pouch and lower stomach with gas is painful. I was never a big soda drinker, but pre-band I LOVED my beer. I'm 19 months out and have only had a few sips off of maybe three beers. I haven't touched soda. Not even once. I had a few sips of champagne this past New Year's Even and thought I was going to die. I went to bed early groaning in pain. NEVER AGAIN. My doctor was right, and I'm doing what he says.......

My doc says that they are ok in moderation after a year. Even then, he said that you should pour it over ice and let it go flat. That defeats the purpose of drinking a soda. I have also heard about the extreme pain from the gas bubbles. It just doesn't sound worth it to me. I do miss them though.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
