Yesterday I had my fourth fill- for a total of 8 cc's in my band. I have NO problems on this journey- losing weight well 66 pounds since August 9, 2010. However this fill has rocked my world, when I have tried to eat (chicken) or anything solid (maybe chicken was a bad idea- I just love it) I feel like within a minute of eating I feel as though I have swalllowed glass and someone is trying to choke me. If I lean over it eases the pain. Is this normal? What types of foods are good to eat after a fill? I think that liquids are safe- but I would like to gradually eat again.

My Dr's office has me follow a 2-3 days of Protein Shakes, 2-3 days mushy foods, then onto regular foods after each fill. That way your stomach is able to adjust a little easier to the new restriction, Hope that helps :-)

Being filled yesterday, you should not be eating solid foods so soon.

Having said that, I also have 8cc's in a 11cc band. The feeling you have right now, get used to it. It will not happen as often as it does right now, but it will happen more easily if you are not careful. Give it 2 weeks to make any determination. If still very tight, Dr. can take out a 1/2 cc or so.

But it sounds like you are there where your fills will be "Fine Tuning" based on your weight loss.

I go back in 2 weeks, and if my weight loss is not good, I may ask for 1/2 cc. Last visit things were fine, and did not get a fill.

After a fill there is a learning curve for new eating habits. Was it breast meat? Breast meat is off my menu. I can eat dark meat, but white meat gets stuck consistently.

After fills I go very easy on eating foods, taking teeny tiny bites, giving them a bit of time in between to settle down then proceed on. It's a dangerous thing to eat as you did previously to the fill.

Thanks for all of your advice- B-52 your profile pic is ironic- I teach in Asbury Park! lol

I really did not try and eat that much chicken just picking at a rotessirie (spelling) chicken. I had some egg salad- feel better now. I am going to just make some more changes and have patience when eating.

Since you're so fresh from a fill go to liquids for a day then mushies. You're swollen right now and need to let your stomach calm down.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
