I was in Bandster Hell last night. Chest hurt, stomach hurt and there was nothing I could do other than chew on gas x and take my lortab. I did end up getting sleep but not enough. I'm back like that this morning so calling doctor for better drugs. Last night I couldn't help but wonder if I had made a huge mistake.

Ok....I figured out what happened yesterday. Peanut Butter. It was too rich. I read on a message board that it can cause chest pains. I'm glad that my powdered peanut butter arrived yesterday, it only has 1.5g of fat in 2T and it tastes the same. Ok, so -- as much as I really want to dive in and try every food, I'm going to limit myself to one new food a day. Otherwise, I don't know which ones make me uncomfortable. Man, some of these lessons are painful! Tomorrow starts mushies....today I'm back to applesauce. No pain this morning, just a bit of discomfort.

I did drink Protein and had pudding and applesauce. So I'm going to concentrate on Water today before I worry about anything else.

Amy - can't thank you enough for heating pad advice and support. Last night was hard. I tried to lay down in bed last night but bronchitis still bad and I couldn't stop coughing. TMI - I'm still getting green stuff out of my lungs despite all the antibiotics. Physician assistant writing me script for stronger pain killer so maybe I can sleep. Still chewing gas x.

Greetings from pre-lap band world! Hope everyone is doing well.

I'm really surprised you tried peanut butter so soon! At my pre-op this week the nurse told me that under no circumstances was I to have peanut butter, she said someone just ended up in the emergency room after eating it! Is it allowed on your post-op diet?

Question for post-bandies....I heard to use ice packs on the incisions, and heating pad for the gas/shoulder pains. Does this sound right? Has anyone used these?

Hi, Shauna! I'm using ice packs for the incisions. I haven't used a heating pad yet, but I have one here and ready in case the gas pains get too bad. So yes, that's the advice I've gotten, too.

Also, I'm discovering that it's much easier today to drink warm or Hot Drinks. I think it might be because I'm sleeping so much (in naps, anyway) because of the meds--and supposedly the band feels tighter after you sleep for a while. The hot liquids seem to loosen things up a bit.

I saw the "avoid peanut butter" thing but I thought it was due to being a sticky food and might plug the band, I didn't think of it being such a filling food. I was just trying to get in some Protein. The high fat content is what does it I guess. I'll have to change to my powdered Peanut Butter - much healthier! Painful lesson.

I never used ice, but heat is wonderful. Just make sure not to leave it on for too long...10 minutes on, 10 minutes off is what I was told. Feels sooooo good.

a tablespoon of PB in my vanilla Protein Shake in the blender was fine for me....no problems at all. I guess it depends on how you are eating it?

Feeling better with stronger pain killers on board. can't recline without discomfort so I am sitting up. Hoping for a nap. I normally bounce back from everything so easily - this whole thing has taken me by surprise!

So is the "avoid PB" suggestion that many of you are getting just for immediately post-op, or is it forever? My NUT suggested that later, once I'm on solids, some PB on an apple slice would make a good snack. . .

I'm actually beginning to look forward to being able to have a Protein Shake tomorrow. I'm not exactly hungry, but I'm beginning to feel a little deprived. . . (last week I wouldn't have believed I could feel deprived of Protein Shakes ever!!).

I've searched a lot of the threads here and it looks like PB is just a "use caution" food. Maybe something that should be tried once on regular food (maybe too soon to try it since i'm not starting mushies till tomorrow. Personally, I'm not trying it again for a while. The jar went into the "give away to friends" bag since I have the powdered stuff now. I love me some goooood PB, so I'm still hopeful that I'll try it again in a few weeks once the belly settles down more. My NUT said to use caution with it, just like any sticky liquid like honey, Syrup or thick glazes.

Everything with the Lap Band seems to be so individual. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm only six days postop!

And now, back to my Jello. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
