I was banded yesterday at 11am. Had lots of pain and some nauesa. After being in lots of pain all morning (my husband was giving me 1tsp of meds instead of the prescribed 1tbsp) we figured out what the problem was and I am much improved pain-wise. I am taking a anti-nauesa as well every 4 hours or so. I haven't been able to eat much yesterday or today. Yesterday I had 1/4 cup of chicken broth and that was it. Today I had 1/4 cup protien shake, about 1 cup of chicken broth, and 2 baby spoons of Jello. I just tried to eat some more broth but I am nauesous now and could only do about 1/4 of a cup again. Can I get sick in the first few days from not eating enough? What has been ya'lls experiences?

Thanks!

First congrats on getting your band. I was an overnighter so I'm sure they were giving me something there. I was released with a slow release med tube. Pain and nauesa weren't a problem. I was on Protein Drinks and broth for two or three days, If I remember, I was told it might take over an hour to get 4 or 5oz. down. I just sipped and sipped. No straws! You will not starve, it is best to just do a little at a time as your tummy is still very swollen. My problem was the dang gas. It woke me the first night I was home. To combat this you need to move around. Just get up and walk through the house to help it move. Most important do whatever your doc told you to do for relief. These are the things I was told and they worked for me. Good luck :D

I had surgery on Monday. My surgeon wants me to focus on getting my 64 oz of Fluid down each day. As he says...we can live off our fat stores for 6 - 12 months so we're not going to starve! lol

I've just had a couple bites of Jello and a few swallows of broth each day and I feel like I'm doing great! I start full liquids tomorrow so I'm looking forward to Protein shakes and creamed soups! Best of luck to you in the coming days. Walk, walk, walk, and walk some more to keep the gas pain at bay!

Most important thing is to remain hydrated. If you can't sip Water frequently try ice chips. If your fridge dispenses crushed ice, that is great. Otherwise have you husband crush some ice in the blender. Take a few chips every 15 minutes or so until you can drink water. Good luck.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm up and trying to down some protien shake. I took some nauesa med with it to hopefully avoid that. My stomach has been grumbling since last night. I will try to get more Water today.

Thanks all and talk to you later.

I did not eat much of ANYTHING at all for the first few days, but I sat with a water bottle next to me the whole time. As long as you are hyrdated you are going to be just fine! sugar-free popsicles, are awesome by the way. They were my favorite thing after surgery.

I became a popsicle addict. I didn't eat hardly anything the first week and I was fine. I just started my third week diet today that consists of soft foods and I'm trying to eat a little more. Overall, I can say that gas was by far the worst part of this whole experience. Just walk a lot and it will help. Gas-X strips are also a lifesaver.....get you some of those. You will begin eating more as time goes by, but don't rush it. I bet I haven't taken in over 300 calories a day since the 16th of this month, but I know I need to change that and I am working on it.

Good luck on your journey!

I've been doing MUCH better today!! Pain has been at port site and on top and right incisions. I coughed up some junk which helped me breath better (didn't feel to good). I have been drinking pretty good today. Occasionally my esophagus feels full and a bit painful but it only lasts for a few seconds, kind of like food is going up then down again. It makes me scared like it may get stuck. My stomach has been growling like crazy so I decided to try some cream of wheat. It was wonderful! Slid down easily and seemed to satisfy me. I will continue with the Water and try some popsicles. Thanks all and I hope everyone is doing well today! (please disregard spelling, my spellcheck isn't working) ;o)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
