If you're going to slime, pb, etc...

Recommended Posts

What's the time frame between the last bite and when you slime or pb? Is it an instant thing or does it take a few minutes?? Just curious as to how long it takes if it's going to happen.

Thanks!

For me it has been different. The first time it came up instantly, never felt sick just the over flow came up.

The last time (hope it is the last one) it took about 15 minutes but then I felt really bad and sick and the whole supper came up.

But remember this only happens when I eat too fast or when I eat dry foods like chicken breast. But......everyone is different.

Generally very fast within seconds. PBing is a productive burp. Like vomiting in slow motion.

For me I may be mildly uncomfortable at first and as the food progresses down it becomes more painful, and then my mouth starts to Water. I am usually okay if I get up and spit instead of trying to swallow all of the saliva. Spitting and burping ususally keep me from vomiting. I am 6 mos post op as of yesterday and have only vomited once(a few days ago).

omg...this all sounds so scary..i am 5 days out (still liquids) almost dreading eating for fear of these occurances..someone said it happened because of 'dry food like chicken breast"..but isn't things like chicken breast what we are suppose to eventually eat? I assumed that would be a good portion of the maintenance diet? Arcadia, am asking you because you are very well informed...I see this from your posts,btw..,thank you for that..

Try not to worry too much. Most foods go down OK. I eat chicken breast often, but not dry chicken breast. The key is to eat much slower...don't get in a big hurry and chew!! I am banded a little over 2 months. Some things I have never tried...not sure if I ever will. bread is one of them. I read lots of posts here and bandsters say they eat popcorn. I just haven't been brave enough to try because to me that is a dry food. I have got stuck a couple times since being banded. Mostly I just slimed a little and spit it out. Once I did have a small PB and that was not fun! So I have learned to slow down and chew!!!

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
