4 Week Post Op Liquid Diet.....

Recommended Posts

Okay,

I am 2 weeks out from my surgery.....I feel great...I have even started walking 30min a day! I was banded this month 6/14/11 I don't have my 1st fill till 7/11/11 and my doctor has me on liquids until then....WTH!

I CAN NOT simply take this anymore.....I need to eat. I want to lose weight because I am eating and making the right food choices...not because I am simply STRAVING...I could have done that all on my OWN and lost weight!

I have had food.... because the Protein shakes and broth is NOT doing it for me any longer...I had grits and I ate one egg....I hope and pray that I haven't ruined my band before I have even REALLY gotten started

Any suggestions anyone can offer to get thru this next two weeks with NO food? ??

BTW when I have my 1st fill I have to be on Mushies for 2 weeks....so it looks like I really won't be eating until AUGUST......

Every doctor's after surgery protocol is different. My surgery was 6/9 and I'm on regular food already. If you are really struggling I would call my doctor and tell them you can't stay on liquids any longer. That you need to eat something and see what they say. That said, there may be a very specific reason he has you on liquids. Have you tried Protein drinks? I drink the Premier brand from costco. It has 30 grams of Protein per serving and holds me for several hours.

Also, I don't think soft scrambled eggs will hurt your band. I don't know about the grits. But like I said, there may be a specific reason he has you on all liquids. Never hesitate to call your doc and let them know what's going on.

Thanks for your response! Grits are actully on my " Soft Food" stage list its almost like " Cream of wheat"...I did ask if I could move on to " soft food"....I was SHUT DOWN.

He wants " Scar Tissue" to form around the band.....With that said I totally understand every doc is different but with allll the post I have read here on lapband talk...My DOCTOR is the most extreme....I was on a 2 weeks post op liquid diet before my surgery and now another 4 weeks on " Clear Liquids...and 2 weeks on soft food... I am VERY dicouraged at this point...I find myself doing my old habits " food Seeking" looking in the fridge and cabinets etc....

Yes I have a great Protein shake that I love, but it does not keep me full for long...and when I get hungry I just wanna cry cause I don't wanna drink broth, eat a popsicle, Jello, or another shake....

I am starting to feel like....Why did I do this....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
