What makes a lap band not want to accept food?

Recommended Posts

I'm having a lot of trouble with my food getting stuck - like a clogged drain- how can I avoid this because I'm not getting enough nourishment and I don't want to have any Fluid taken out of my band.

Thanks for any and all information you can give me.

Make sure you're chewing very very well and taking small bites. I've seen suggested bites at the size of a pencil eraser, or a pea, or the tip of your pinky up to your first knuckle. If you're doing this already, you need an un-fill.

Dry foods, make sure there moist. Eating to FAST, so when you eat, if you feel the slightest tightness, STOP ! Don't even give eating a second thought. When it goes thew the pouch, and empties in the stomach (YOU WILL FEEL IT) Then you can go back and have a little more.

If you have to heat it up, use the microwave.

Remember, when you feel it uncomfortable in the pouch don't eat another bite, just let it pass.

Get an unfill. Having Fluid take out, even a tiny bit, can mean the difference between your green zone and hell.

Hi Shirley,

I think I'm down to Soup only for right now. Some days are better than others

I have had such a hard time loosing (probably my age!!!) so I don't want to have Fluid taken out.

I have had my band for 4 years and it is still a struggle. Thanks for your help.

I think you need a very small unfill....being too tight can lead to all sorts of complications and everyhing you describe is shouting, "TOO TIGHT"!! You can always get more put back after a while if you need to,

Please reconsider.

Try liquids for 3days, then mushies, then try food. Otherwise you could swell up..

If you do this, and you still can't eat, then you will need a slight unfil.

Try this first, then you will know.

Shirley.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
