Role of the Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Thank you all for your posts. I've been having such a hard time with my band. I've been very discouraged for the exact same reasons as you all mentioned. I've been eating around the band and not listening to it. On top of that, I HATE exercising and just plain don't want to do it. You've restored my motivation! I'm going to start listening to the band more and stop beating myself up about not wanting to exercise and count calories. I've tried to lose weight my entire life and was having a hard time thinking the band wasn't working for me at all because I was going to have to "diet" anyway. I'm going to continue to eat healthy, smaller portions and listen to what my friend, the band, is telling me. Thank you all very much for helping me even though you didn't know it!

My fill doc says if you have half or less than half volume of fill (5cc in 10cc band or less) it is like you do not have a band. I did not feel full or restricted (cant eat more than a cup) until I got to 6.7cc in 10cc band.Right now I can not eat a half sandwich or even a full slice of pizza without feeling miserably full...good luck and sorry to hear you had to have a second Surgery! Hope you are fully recovered now.

Thanks for the info No I have not had a grreat time of it really it like three times surgery really as I went to Praque alone first to have the Balloon fitted then it perforated in the stomach had to find someone who would remove it first so I have been ripped off a bit cost me in all about £8000 I have only Lost 18ibs gotta loose 50Ibs in all...

Well that means I will need a fill but my Doctor is not helpful and knows very little..So I will have to pay out whom ever I use to do it...

;) Cheers!

Well good luck...I really do believe this is all about the fills and the right amount of fill makes it easy. I simply cannot eat very much and I need it to be that way. I dont have to diet or exercise (have done that in the past and just never could keep it up!) and I am now 7 pounds from goal of 70 pounds...I have lost 90% of what is called excess weight! I self payed for my band (15,000) and now I pay 190$ for a fill but it is all well worth it (I have losy insurance!). Keep on struggling along...thats all you can do. It must be much harder to find fills etc over there...here (especially in California)this is on all the billboards like Botox and Tummy Tuck surgeons etc.

Dear Dawn, well good luck I think a fill is just what you need. I had been stuck at about ten pounds from my normal BMI goal and it seemed nothing changed for a few months. I got a tiny fill (only 0.3cc) and in the two weeks since I have lost four pounds! I live in Pismo Beach which is on the coast about halfway between LA and SF. It was a 4-5 hour drive to get fills and I hated the traffic so I found a fill doc in Santa Barbara which is only an hour and a half for me...

I don't count calories. The key is to stop at the first sign the band is trying to "restrict" you. I noticed I can eat 2-3 bites of whatever I want and the band makes me feel satisfied but if I drink fluids while I eat or just eat heavy foods (foods that weigh more) like breads. The weight of the bread will push anything down the band and overeating occurs. So I try to pay attention and not drink while I'm eating and even if I put more food on my plate than I can eat I know I don't have to finish it just because it's there. I either throw it away or put it in the microwave for later. I do a lot of exercise like a maniac though but that's just because I'm 26 years old and I wanna have the 6 pack abs and look a certain way and I don't want loose skin. I know there is some extra skin that's probably gonna have to be removed but if I do my part it won't be much. I started at 321 pounds. Got down to 188 pounds within a year. Went to the united kingdom for a month and ate every type of food I couldn't here in America and came back home 247 pounds. Now I'm back down to 219 and my goal is 175. I'm 6ft tall. I was so close to my goal but it shows that this is a lifestyle change. Not a quick fix. I think of my band as my little helper buddy

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
