Pain or gas in chest that goes to throat

Recommended Posts

I have had what seems to be a gas bubble that comes on and travels to my throat. I have to swallow alot to make it go away. It feels like I need to burp but I can not. It really hurts at the breast bone. Has anyone else had this? This is really concerning me.

Try taking a Gas X Strip or even two and see if that helps. How long have you had your band??

That's what my burps feel like now. I had to learn a different way to burp, I need to push hem out now as opposed to before when they'd just come out.

I have not had anything but liquid.

Are you sure you aren't experiencing something being stuck? It is painful lime that. I describe it as a screw going in your chest.

At my pre-op appointment today, one of the ladies in the waiting room was telling me about the gas pains traveling up to the shoulders and she said that she stood close to a wall and kind of pushed back gently a few times with her arms, then walked around a lot and it gave her some relief.

I had the same exact sensation. I saw my doctor about it and he said it was fine, that my body was just getting used to the shock of surgery, etc. Just keep walking as much as you can. Also, something that helped me was to softly massage my throat with two fingers (just over the adam's apple, over and over). It helped me burp and feel better. This sensation went away by about day 7 (for me), so just hang in there!!

I'm 3 days out and I have this too. It feels like gas that won't get burped up. I just walk or rub my chest and it goes away. i've been taking gas x strips to try to get some relief, but they don't do that much. I Celebrate every fart biggrin.gif that means the gas is exiting!!

I'm the same, 4 days post op, seriously sore all up the left side of my rib cage, arm and neck. I was at my check up yesterday and nurse said it was normal. It's not the normal gas in your stomach its gas left there from op, so it takes a while to disperse. She said i should feel a bit better in about 4 more days.

I am relieved as i thought at one stage it was my heart!!!!! hang in there x

I had the same feeling right after the surgery - I'm about a week post op and this is subsiding. Walk a lot, when lying down change sides and lift your legs and your butt upwards. This helps your trapped gas travel around the intestines so that when you do let one rip - it'll be heavenly!!

As for chest pain right at the breast-bone - feeling out of breath - slow down your eating (drinking). I noticed that if I drink a bit too fast (old habits die hard) I get that choked up feeling.

I miss chewing :(

I did this last night and you should have HEARD all the popping going on! ... mainly in my right shoulder area. Didn't hurt and actually felt good. Walking seems to bring the most relief. :)

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
