So I am one week out from surgery. It has been a pretty good week. The pain wasn't as bad as I thought. I lost 10 lbs since Monday!!! I know it will slow down now that I have started soft food, but I am still happy about it :). So I am on soft food, but I'm not really hungry. I eat maybe one meal a day and just don't want anything else. It's also a small meal...like 3-4 oz. I know this is the purpose of the band and I am happy it's working, but also worried. Is it ok to only eat such a small amount everyday. I know eventually I will be able to eat more, but now I can't. I have my post op tomorrow so I will also ask my doc.

I will be two weeks post op on Thursday and I have yet to really eat a meal. I am just not hungry. I feel great and I'm losing weight, but like you I know it's not good. I am trying to make myself eat more, but it's just hard. I never thought I would have a problem eating! Crazy how the band changes you physically and mentally! Good luck on your journey! :)

I believe you will have to eat more to continue your weight loss. Try eating more frequently even if it's just a few bites. One meal a day is not good. I'm 3 weeks out and I saw my surgeon yesterday. He emphasized that it is VERY important to get in Protein. He recommended at least 2 Protein drinks a day. He wasn't as concerned about calories, just Protein. I drink the Premier Protein drinks from costco. They have 30 grams of protein per single serving box. 2 drinks and I have my minimum protein for the day. It's 160 calories with 5 grams of carbs. If you can't eat at least drink a Protein Drink. I'm not hungry either but force myself to eat several times a day.

I second the protien drinks. Even if you have to force yourself a little, you want to get in enough calories and protien. Congrats on your surgery. Best wishes.

I've had anesthesia 3 times before and have completely lost my appetite for at least a week each time.

Well saw my doc today and he said it's ok that I'm not eating now, because I am still swollen. He said it will change, but that I should never force myself. He also said I am doing great and I felt so proud of myself :).

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
