Hello All,

My name is nicnic424. I am new to the site but have been banded for 1 year and 10 months. So far I have lost 52 pounds since my surgery. I started out at 263 # and my goal is (for now) is 160 #. I have found it easier to accomplish my goals if I set several smaller goals than try to achieve one big goal.

I decided to get the lap band because for the past 9 years I have struggled my with my weight. Before then, I never struggled with my weight. What triggered the not caring, I guess you could call it, was that I lost a baby when I was almost 6 months pregnant. Ever since then, my husband of 7 years and I have not been able to concieve. I went to the doctor and found out that I have PCOS ( Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome). We tried fertility drugs and nothing work. Finally, the doctor told me that I would greatly increase my chances if I could lose the weight.

I tried several times on my own. I would be successful and lose 5 - 10 pounds, but then it would come back and bring friends! Choosing the lap band has been the best and most difficult decision that I have made. I know that it's for the best, but I have had several bumps in my road. I just try to keep my head up and think about what is at the finish line!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
