Lap-Band removal

Recommended Posts

I was banded in Montery Mexico in 2004. I am afraid I may have to have it removed due to acid reflux problems. How do I go about finding a doctor to do the surgery? I don't want to go back to Mexico and I just moved to a new city.

I've had some re-flux issues, they went away after I took out some Fluid in the band. If you had your surgery in Mexico, where do you get your band filled? Can they recommend someone? Go on line and find Bariatric clinics in your area and see of they will take you on as a new patient. That sucks, did you lose the weight you wanted at least.

Thanks for responding. i just moved to a new city so I am starting over trying to find a doctor. I have found that many doctors won't take me on as a patient because they didn't do the surgery. I did loose weight. I went from 287lbs to 180lbs. I kept it off for quite a while but over the last two years the weight is coming back on. I'm back up to 240lbs. It is so depressing. I am going to try having all the fill taken out to see if the reflux stops but am worried. I don't think there is much in there. I have failed my band.

I don't think you have failed your band...I think your band failed you. I had my band totally unfilled when I was pregnant with my daughter, she's 2 months old and I just had my 1st fill after almost a year. I'm starting over, it's scary, but you may feel good getting your reflux under control, wait a couple months and they start again, it's like a jump start after hitting a wall. Ist week and I've lost 5lbs, it sucks after having so much pregnancy fat fun, but I'm driven now. I suggest that if you loosen the port for a couple months that you do weight watchers so you don't go totally off the wagon. You may also want to look into a gastro surgeon, they may be more willing to take on your case. You did it once you can do it again :D

What a kind and positive person you are. I really appreciate your words of encouragement. I realize I have fallen back into distructive behaviors and the self loathing that got me where to 287lbs in the first place. I will find someone that is willing to work with me.

Thank you for your support!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
