brigittemarrow@yahoo.com 0 Posted June 27, 2011 I had my surgery less than a week ago and I'm trying to fiqure out, what does, "stuck" mean? What happens when this occur? What causes it? And Lastly, how can it be avoided. Thank you.
Cindy C 150 Posted June 27, 2011 Food gets stuck in your band causing nothing to be able to go through it. Not even your own saliva. It's caused by eating too fast, eating too much, not chewing well enough... Sometimes it feels like someone parked their Buick on my chest. It's not pleasant!! You avoid it by taking time between bites, stopping when full, chewing the heck out of every bite and staying away from you own personal list of things that cause it which you will figure out in time. For most of us that list includes bread, Pasta and rice.
TKW 501 Posted June 27, 2011 Can be very painful. Have you ever swallowed too big of a bite and it hurts like hell all the way down? That's what stuck feels like but it lasts a lot longer! It will either eventually go down or you will throw it up. It can actually get lodged so tight that you have to have Fluid removed to get the object to go through. Some people say papya enzymes will disolve it others say pineapple juice will break it up. I have learned that I can pretty much eat anything, bread, Pasta, steak etc. as long as my bites are small and i eat really slow. I've been stuck a lot, it is very uncomfortable. I usually end up throwing up.
Wheelchair 13 Posted June 27, 2011 Welcome to the site! I know I'm not a mod... but I would like to ask you to use the SEARCH function in the forum. Being 'stuck' and having slime / PB episodes have been thoroughly discussed in the forum. This way, I think, we'll have all the information streamlined...and not scattered everywhere. P.S. I think this is one of the things you should have learned BEFORE having your surgery.

Auroraishere 1 Posted June 28, 2011 If we weren't allowed to ask things over and over , this forum would pretty much die out, there are just different variations of the same questions all the time. ask away!
Time2BHealthy 1 Posted June 28, 2011 I described the feeling has having someone screwing a 12" screw into your chest. I experienced it today actually. Not a good feeling.
Acadia 20 Posted June 28, 2011 Plus the search on this site really doesn't work well. I say ask the questions you need to. I have however found that searching google for 'lapbandtalk' and the words and/or phrase helps and finds posts whereas the built-in search doesn't, especially if you want to know something NOW and can't wait for replies. mattie7632 24 Posted June 28, 2011 I've said before "lapbandTALK" not lapband search!!!!! One could google "stuck" if they just wanted that kind of info. This is a discussion forum where folks want real peoples comments. Jeez!!! Stuck sucks but it's certainly nothing to stress yourself over. I think you will experience this at one point or another while you are learning how to eat, chew and as another poster said, what your own personal "avoid list" is. When it happens, you will know!!! I have been banded for about 5-6 months and I am starting to experience real restriction and am now having some trouble with breads and rice. And I just excuse myself and spit it up rather than suffer with the discomfort if it happens.

brbm6 6 Posted June 28, 2011 When I get stuck.............it is the most painful thing! I am not one of the lucky ones who get something stuck and quickly throw up to relieve the feeling. I feel like there is something sitting on my chest and I can not breathe. Then if I am lucky in about 20 minutes I either throw up or it will go down. I have found drinking something warm (like tea) will ease it up. That being said, I love my band. I just avoid things that will get me stuck. You will learn really quick what you can and can not eat. P.S. Ask any questions you want! That is the only way you find out the "real" answers from people who are banded. Dismiss the rude comments. Welcome to forum.
