I am very lucky that the army hospital where we are stationed is covering my surgery. I was approved and in the program. I chickened out. I am terrified and still am. I can go back......but I do not know what to do. Mean while my weight goes up. I am attending OA.

What are you terrified about? I think I know what it might be, because I am an Army wife myself. If you need to talk let me know :)

You are not the first person to rethink this. It is a big decision. My moment of truth was hearing about statins, baby aspirin and heart disease one month after my 30th birthday. Your moment, if it meant to be, will be enough for you to overcome your fear.

Just scared of all that can go wrong. I have a 14month old. Some folks on here aren't even losing weight. My neighbor only lost 30lbs. I dont want to put myself through it for nothing.

I am not scheduled for it yet, but I'm using my time reading posts and asking questions, and getting really mentally ready for it. I sometimes, get fearful too, but after reading all the positive posts and knowing that I just need this extra tool to help me lose and keep it off, is what I need. That's where my thinking is right now, anyhow. I wish you well with whatever choice you make. :)

I have a 2 yr old at home, so I understand where you are coming from. I also was diagnosed with diabetes, high cholesterol and a fatty liver last fall and I am in my early 30s!

I don't want to be the fatty mommy anymore or drop dead of a heart attack before my baby girl is fully grown. I want to be her healthy role model.

If you decide to do this, do it for you and use it as a tool. Who knows what your neighbor is doing behind closed doors. Make this work for you.

I wish my band was fully covered! Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thank you for that. I think she drank a lot of calories. I am so fortunate to have it covered. I am 5'6 and 248. I would never be approved on the outside.

I am not scheduled for surgury yet. I am just reading. I go for the initial consult on August 9. They just called my yesterday to schedule. I am nervous about the actual surgury. But once it is done it is done. The rest will have to do with me.

I started reading the boards as soon as I saw the surgeon. It was just over 4 months from then when I was approved. Honestly, I try to stay away from the negativity. I'm a 50% pay and with my age and family history - I MUST make this work. There are a lot of success stories out there ... I want to be one of them. I wish you well during your decision making ....stick with these boards - they are wonderful !

WHY????? It's not bad Really ! I have had DENTAL Work that was more painful.

They can give you something for the Anxiety. They see this allot!

But Honey,, It's Nothing. Yes your a little sore with the Gas, and the Incession,

but it's surgery. That's expected.

Trust me on this one. It is not a big Deal. It sounds unreal because it's Bariatric Surgery.

It's easy, just read the success stories from recent surgeries, and you will see for yourself.

Give your Doc a call, and see if they will do it again. Tell them it made you sick from the thought of

surgery, and they should give you something for it.

Shirley.

This was the easiest surgery....in and out! I chickened out 2 years ago (and gained an extra 20 lbs. that I now have to take off). The surgeon just wasn't the right fit for me. It was a blessing in disguise because I adore my surgeon and his staff. Just remember........the band works if you work with the band. You will still have to watch what you eat and excersise. It is not a magic cure-all. But, it is so much easier with this tool in place.

I am an army wife too, at Ft Benning and my surgery is scheduled for July6th..have to travel 2 !/2 hrs for it because the post here nor the city of columbus ga offer it, but Tricare is covering it completely, so nah I dont mind the drive. I have the butterflies like crazy and I cant sleep because I feel like a child waiting for Christmas. I am constantly rethinking my decision, but after battling weight for 15yrs andknocking on 40 yrs old door, I really have to look at the longterm benefits...I wanna grow old with my husband, I want to see our kids grow into adulthood and have families of their own, I want to be able to go on vacations and be able to enjoy them without wearing out, I want to be able to enjoy retirement when the time comes. Those factors keep me going. I am sure you probably have reasons of your own you can focus on to make you hold the faith in your decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
