Hi everybody. My name is Ashley & I'm 27 years old. I have 2 daughters and have been married to my husband for 5 years. I weigh 275 pounds. My BIGGEST ever. I've tried diet after diet and life style changes and can't seem to shake the weight. In Dec. of 2010 I was went to the doctor for really bad depression. I was put on several differnt medications. It was determined that most of my depression is weight related. Anyway after long talks with my husband I've decided that this is the best choice for me.

Do it girl! I had it done last month and have lost 18 lbs so far. I have battled weight related depression for years also. I am already feeling better about myself and can't wait to lose more. Good luck!!

Go for it girl! I'm 28 years old and fought with my weight until I couldn't do it anymore! I had surgery a two weeks ago this Thursday and it was the best decision I have ever made. I am down a little over 20 pounds and can already say I have no regrets. It requires life changes, but I'm in it for the long haul. You WILL not be alone I promise! This website is fantastic and everyone for the most part is supportive. I'm always here if you need anything!:)

Thanks so much everybody! Right now my insurance covers 100% of the surgery since I am considered morbidly obese. However our insurance re-news on Aug. 1. I have already sent an e-mail to my HR department to make sure that it is still covered now I just have to wait and see before I take any more steps. I am so beyond scared but so ready to start the process also!

Most insurance have decided to keep LapBand and Gastric because in the end it saves them tons of money. So if I were you I'd start the process now and continue on your journey. Just get the information on what your insurance requires to be approved. Some require a 6 month monitored diet others don't. Other insurance companies require 2 morbid factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.. But now that you have decided to take the leap.....go for it.

I am in the process of doing all my doctors test. My insurance doesn't require the dieting. But the test that the doctor requires take time and sometimes you are at the mercy of time. I am hoping I will have my surgery in August.

Good Luck!!

Congrats on your decision. I too suffered from depression. Yes, mine too was weight related. Since loosing weight I feel really good! Much more energy, not so sad and the future is definately brighter. This has been the best choice I have made for myself in a long time! Good luck with your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
