So...day 4 post op. Onto thick liquids.

What an irony. The post op diet is all based on sweet: Water + CrystalLight, Jello, popsicles - with broth being the exception. Thick liquids: pretty much the same: yogurt, pudding, Protein shakes - all pretty much hits the sweet side of the palate. Soups are the only savory thing that makes it in.

It's ironic that all "post weight loss surgery" foods default to the sweet. I would kill for something savory/salty. Had some hummus today - ate it with a fork - what a freak! I freakin' hate sweet things. Sure occasional bite of chocolate cake or something desertish - fine - but why has no-one invented bacon flavored jell-o or steak pudding?

I even got the chicken Soup powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shake - but there are limits to how many a person can drink.

The next 4 weeks are going to be weird with all the dairy crap. I need to start chasing the Protein Shakes with some tequila or I'll go crazy.

Sorry - just venting. The only way I can now - because gas is just trapped in there :) hehehe

Weird, isn't it? I really enjoyed miso Soup while I was on liquids. I also found a chicken broth with white wine and spices in it, yum. Hummus is a good choice for sure.

I hear ya, Cpt!!!!

I am so tired of the sweet-flavored crap and want something with more substance!!! I even have the unjury chicken broth, but that can only go so far!!! Today I took a can of bean with bacon Soup and blended it...was much better than the chicken broth, but still felt like I needed a side of steak pudding with it!!! LOL I am seriously craving bacon!!! I <3 bacon!!!

I can only imagine how many little sugar bugs are feasting on my teeth with this post-op liquid diet!!! I find myself brushing more to get the taste out of my mouth!!

So you are not alone in wanting a tequila chaser!!!

Carry on.wink.gif

Try making your own Soups. Then you can get the flavours you want. I stocked up the freezer with homemade soups before my op and they were great.

I eat a lot of refried Beans with broth added to loosen them up. They don't look all that great but if you crave Tex-Mex, add a little jalepeno before blending and fat free sour cream on top.

and you can take almost anything and puree it into a liquid...I rememeber making tacos for my husband when I was on the soft pureed stage. I took some of the taco meat, cheese, salsa and refried bean and whirled it around. It was delicious, taco Soup and filled me up.

chicken or tuna salad can be blended....you can also add the chicken flavored unjury to Soups to up to the Protein content. Its like adding chicken broth to any soup, doesn't change the flavor that much. I lived on Wendy's chili at the time(now I rarely eat it)

Luckily my surgery was done in a January and its cold. We had many soups for a couple of weeks. I bought a soup cookbook to experiment with different ones (though I'm a helluva soup maker) I made heartier ones for my husband and blended mine. I love french onion, Tomato, minestrone and creamy chicken for the fast ones. I love making homemade potato, broccoli and cheese, minestrone. A steak and potatoe soup would be really good blended up.

Yeah - I guess the question is: Will it blend?

I picked up a great cook-book for post weight-loss surgery folks on Amazon: "Eating Well after weight loss surgery" by Patt Levine and Michelle Bontempo-Saray. Has a lot of good Soup recipes for Weeks 1-2 and beyond has tons of low-fat, low-cal, high Protein recipes. I'm going to try and make some of them this week and puree the hell out of them.

Sipping some great mushroom soup right about now for lunch. I found that anything more than 6oz of liquids fills me up pretty well. I'm also beginning to recognize the difference between hunger pangs and gas.

BTW - if there are any Venture Capitalists or Angel Fund people - I'm in the concept stage of a machine that would trap all the gas generated by bandsters and harnessing it as an alternative energy source. It seems it's our only way out of foreign oil dependence. If you know Al Gore - introduce us!!

It would be such a waste to all those unrealized farts go to waste :)

Good Times,

Ahab

What would actually happen if you ate more solid foods like meatloaf during the mushy stage because I sure did want some today......lol? Of course I didn't eat it because I know it's not good, but what is the actual purpose of the different stages? I mean, if you slip up once is it doing to make your band slip or what? I am not going to cheat, but all of my friends have been asking me and I'm curious!

Gotta be careful.

Here in Aus our PM is trying to introduce a carbon tax(actually it's really a CO2 tax) - imagine how much we would have to pay. There was also a proposal that they kill all our feral camels as all the gas they produce is increasing global warming!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
