Post Op 9 Days - Question About Liquids

Recommended Posts

I had surgery Thursday a week ago and I am wondering if I should be able to drink a whole small slush from Sonic. I drank one today and it didn't bother me at all. I guess I just didn't think I would be able to drink a whole one. Also, how soon could I drink a mixed drink? I don't want to rush it, but I'm going out tonight and I kind of want one. I am at the stage now where I'm not taking in hardly any calories so it won't hurt me from that perspective, but I know down the road I will have to be really careful with "empty calories."

I think you should try to make better choices. Sonic slush is just sugar and at 9 days out I think you should be trying to get in the habit of taking in good calories-not bad. Old habits are hard to break.

Sorry! Just my thoughts!

A slush is basically sugar and Water so you should be able to drink a small easily.....however, I personally have cut out all sugar, including my favorite cherry/limeade slush. As far as the mixed drink is concerned. You should be able to handle it, but be careful of any sodas...sometimes they can cause pain from the carbonation!

Having alcohol right now is a bad idea since your body is still weak from surgery. It will affect you quickly, and maybe not in a good way.

MOST people don't have restriction right after surgery. The band works by making you feel "full" quickly and keeping you feeling satisfied for 4-5 hours, but it's not going to stop you from eating or drinking a large amount of anything. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should :)

i haven't been pigging out at all. My doctor actually suggested drinking a slush or smoothie per day this week only just to add more calories, since I wasn't getting enough. I don't really like them so that is the only reason she thought I could get by with that. I drank Water tonight so I did good! I've been really strict and I have been making good choices when I eat (well, more like drink!)......I just don't want anything at all at this point. Thanks for all of the feedback and good luck on your journeys! I had mine last Thursday and I have lost 20.....I've never been this motivated, but I hope it sticks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
