Last night I had my first episode of getting something stuck. I ate a small piece of chicken. It may not have been small enough or I ate too fast. I have never had such pain. It wouldn't go up and it wouldn't go down. I had this feeling of panic and was having trouble breathing. I read not to drink anything during an episode like this. But finally after about 20 minutes of incredible pain, I drank a small amount of Water. It seemed to help. The chicken did seem to move and the pain was less. I didn't sleep very well as I had a persistent ache in my shoulder and chest. This morning I feel better but still sore. I would like to hear other people's experience with this. I am 3 weeks post op and just adding things slowly. Could I have caused any damage? I plan on drinking only liquids today.

chances are that you didn't do any significant damage. You have to remember that the human body is VERY resilient.

I'm in a similar boat as you as I'm 3 weeks post-op. It's not easy having to re-learn how to eat... so I guess we both need to take baby steps.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am just one week post-banding, but I rely on others' experiences to help me learn. I am so sorry this happened to you! I will make sure I chew, chew, chew! I don't want to have this happen to me.

My suggestion is to eat mushies for a few days and Hot Drinks it helps with any swelling. It happens to most of Hewitt no lasting effect other than to reinforce eating slowly and chew, chew, chew!

I do the warm Water when ever I get stuck, and it will push it threw, or FLASH it up. So be by the toilette or a sink. You have to relax yourself, I know your thinking know way! but you must. It will relax the muscles around the band, and make this easier.

So drink warm or lukewarm Water (DON'T DRINK COLD,,, YOU COULD SWELL UP MORE) Sometimes it could take quite a bit of water, but slow, and keep drinking, don't give up. It will push threw or,,, all come up.

Then you feel the swelling. Stay on Liquids for a couple of days, and then mushies.

Hope you feel better.

Shirley.

pineapple juice works for me. Not sure why but if I get stuck I drink a little slowly and it really helps!! I buy those little 8 packs of small pineapple juice and keep a few at home and a few a t the office-just in case.

That's interesting! I wonder if it's because pineapple juice is acidic. My doctor told me not to drink anything if I have a stuck episode. Fortunately, I haven't had one yet...

Since my 4/14/11 surgery, I've had a few stuck episodes (definitely from forgetting to eat slow!) and I definitely can sympathize with your pain!! I find that if I walk around, it helps. Trust me, at Disney World last week I had to stand up and walk outside the restaurant we were at to get the pain to go away. I've also made the mistake of drinking something which makes it feel worse!!! So try the walking next time if you can (and hopefully it won't ever happen again anyways!)

Gosh... I'm so new.... and I had surgery last Wednesday and I'm not exactly sure what getting, "stuck" actually means. Can someone help me out here? Thank you.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
