I haven't even started my pre-op yet but I'm thinking of ways to treat myself. I've decided to have fresh flowers for the few weeks of pre and post-op.

Anyone else do this? Have ideas?

LOL I thought I was going to see you saying you wanted to treat yourself with a dessert!!!! I'm glad to see it was flowers and non-food items. I think that's a GREAT idea - I plan to do a lot of shopping. I have never enjoyed shopping my entire life - because when I was thin up until 2nd year of college I never had any real money - when I got heavy the last 15 years I had plenty of money but no desire to buy "ugly" shapeless clothes in the plus size stores. I'm planning to shop til I drop for the first time in my life (sales and good bargains of course) as the weight drops. Those clothes/shoes will be my "treats" and I'm so looking forward to it!!!!B)

Here are a few thing I'm treating myself to after each 10 lbs lost:

Massage

Manicure/Pedicure

A movie

Some new makeup

Splurge on a new accessory

A new bottle of perfume

And once at my goal weight, some great new clothes! I'm sticking to the ebay/Craigslist/Goodwill route until then, it just get's too expensive otherwise.

I also ordered a charm Bracelet to walk through my lap-band journey. It will be a plain bracelet except for one engravable heart charm...which I plan to have engraved with the date when I reach my goal weight. It symbolizes that I love myself.

Every time I lose 10 lbs. I will treat myself to a new charm. It might symbolize something I've always wanted to do, or something/someone important to me that I'm doing this for. I think my second charm will be the Eiffel Tower...I've always wanted to go to Europe but always put it off because I know you have to walk a lot there and my weight means PAIN when I do that.

Freshen up highlights. Nails done, of course. Maybe a massage at Elizabeth Arden.

Thanks everyone. It seems easier to think of the 'treats' for getting close to goal (clothes, etc) but I want to think about the journey as well. I like the idea of new perfume (something I don't usually splurge on).

I also do the charm thing...I splurged and bought a pandora. I started it out with a nice charm to represent my surgery day and now I buy a new charm for every 10 lbs lost.

My surgery is July 5th, I decided next spring I am going to get a puppy. This gives me time to plan for him/her and get into dog walking shape.

I think is is awesome to give yourself a treat for a job well done. I have ALWAYS wanted a tattoo and I think that will be my final treat once I have lost everything I want to. Maybe a phoenix to symbolize my new found life! Good luck everyone with your goals!

I have treated myself with some new clothes, and a new tattoo. I just got it yesterday, 7 months post op. I had told myself I would get one when I got to my halfway goal, but it came and went pretty quickly, but I finally got it :)

Hi Darlene,

I'm not banded yet, hopefully sometime in July if I pass all these medical tests! I ordered mine from www.worldofcharms.com if you need an idea of where to order online. They have a ton of charms too, search for "vasectomy cupid" to see the funniest one. Once I meet my goal weight, I will keep adding charms when I travel to certain places (my first love is travel), and they have lot's of travel related ones.

Hey Vicky!

Sorry if I stole the charm idea from you...I think I did read about it somewhere on these forums and thought it was a great idea. So lucky to have the Pandora...I'm self-pay so on a budget to say the least!

There are several people on here who have done charm bracelets so I got the idea from one of them! The pandora is a bit pricey but I only get a charm every 4-5 weeks so it's not too bad...i hit the 90 lb mark this morning so I'm going out later today to get my next one ;-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
