Chicago or NE Illinois pre-banders out there?

Recommended Posts

Hi-My name is Amanda and I live in Rockford, IL and going to Dr. Elli in Chicago. I have my pre op appointment on July 20th and will get my surgery date then. can't wait it's been a long process with all of the appointments and tests. But I know it's all worth it. Good Luck with your pre-op diet and the surgery. It's nice to be able to talk to other people in the area.

Welcome Amanda! Congratulations on making the important decision to be healthy. It's one I struggled with for years. I am happy at my weight, just not healthy.

The process will fly by...I started in February of this year and get banded in 10 days. I'm not scared...just worried will I get all my stuff at work done in the 6 work days I have left??? Anyway, keep us posted on your pre-op appointment and how you are doing!

Welcome again!

Tammy

I'm from Rockford, Illinois. I've started the process, and had my initial consultation with Dr. Nuttleman on 6/1/11 at OSF St. Anthony (the hospital I work at). I have had my sleep study, esophagram, lab work and two of my 6 required monthly nutrition consults. I still have to go or my psych appt. I'm moderately nervous about that one, because I don't know what to expect. I do have a current history of depression, and hope that does not preclude me from being eligible. I'm crossing my fingers, toes and everything else that my insurance will see fit to approve this!

Welcome to you! Sounds like you are well on your way to knocking out all the requirements. Way to go! The pysch eval for me was fine. Thirty minutes or so talking to Psychiatrist, then about another 30 minutes taking a personality test (multiple choice). Not sure if it's like that for everyone, that was just my experience. Just be honest; that is all you can do. I will keep you in my thoughts.

Before you know it, you four monthly nutrition consults will be done and you will be banded! Woohoo!

Keep us posted on your progress!

Tammy

Hi Tammy,

I'm not a pre bander, but I am a new one! I'll be 6 weeks post op tomorrow, had my first fill 2 weeks ago and life is good. :)

I'm from central illinois but I drive 2 hours to Joliet to see my dr at Silvercross Hospital. He had great ratings and I was very pleased with everything I heard and saw; unlike the ones that were closer to home.

Like you, some of the frustrated posts made me a little nervous so I started skipping over them so I wouldn't become too anxious before the surgery. I focused on the positives and preparing myself. Feel free to stay in touch, I hope your surgery goes well!

Hi, my name is Tammy and I will be banded on July 13th. Was wondering if there are any other pre-banders in the area?

Hello everyone!!

I'm getting banded by Dr Guske from the Kane Center tomorrow morning @ St Alexis Medical Center & I can't wait to change my life forever!!!!

The Kane Center is a Center of Excellence (or whatever it's called). My doc is amazing, spending more time with me than I could have imagined, answering questions & going above & beyond.

18 hours & counting!

Hi All! I live in Aurora, and will get my band on Thursday! My surgeon is Dr. Woodard, and I'm getting it done at Kendall Pointe Surgical Center. I'm thrilled with him and all his staff, so feel quite good about my decision. I can't wait for this to be a part of my life!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
