My surgeon requests UGI. I had both this week while in hospital since my discharge was held because I had difficulty with fluids. It was a bad esophagitis. The banding was fine and when the endoscope was passed, it passed through easily to duodenum. I am on medication for the esophagitis and clears. I get full fast. so far taking in 2 ounces the most and I am full.

I am down 13 pounds this week...

I'm from the Cincinnati area too, surgery in West Chester. I am scheduled for 8/17 which means I'm starting my liquid diet this coming Wed. I'm more worried about that than anything else. I've had lots of surgeries, including knee and hip replacement. Also had my gallbladder out and hysterectomy so I'm not as worried about recovery. I guess I'm more worried about managing the liquid diet. Any suggestions? I'm kinda a sugar addict so I'm going to need something sweet to get buy. I guess I can do broth too. I'd love some survival tips and recipes. Also not to be gross but how does being on that liquid diet affect your bowels?

I didn't have to have the GI stuff done. Is that because you have reflux maybe? I do have to have the sleep study, which I was trying to get out of since I'm have MANY surgeries before and it wasn't an issue. I just had a total hip replacement in April and there was no questions. I think this surgery they tilt you head down so that could effect your breathing, also that's why there is shoulder pain from air trapping there. Starting liquids this week and really nervous about handling it.

My surgery is just the day before yours. They are telling me since I'm outpatient that I should be fine to go into work in a couple days if I don't do any lifting.

I just read a posting that someone else said the pain was worse on 2 days post -op so now I'm getting worried. Best of luck on your surgery and the days ahead.

Hello fellow August Bandsters...I really think we should come up with a name for us and a roster? I'm lame like that tho! HAHA

How about the A11s??? LMAO! Ya know, the A for august and 11 for 2011!?

So anywho, I'm Caryn, 28, starting weight is about 240 (fluctuating between 238-245), I have 2 kids, Trace, my boy, is 6, and Codi, my girl, is 3. Husband is Ryan, married 8 years.

Today is the 3rd day of pre-op. It's partial liquid, high Protein. Yesterday I baked a gigantic mulit layered cake for my friends birthday. I didn't lick as single spoon, bowl or beater! Go me! We went to dinner and then the bar. I brought my dinner of tilapia and veggies, we went to a seafood so that was fitting, lol. At the bar I had a rum and diet coke, which is cheating I know, but I really wanted a drink! A beer woulda been great but I refrained. Anyways, I made it through the night with only that minimal infarction, so i'm proud of myself. Been 239 since Thursday, which is actually good because I am rarely the same weight 3 days in a row, so I must be about to lose. Oh, and my awesome husband is doing it with me! Not the band, but the pre-op diet. I swear he's already lost 5lbs....MEN!

Hi Caryn, I will be an A11 with you! lol I started at 332 in June, and now (As of July 20) am down to 314. I started the Protein liquid last week. It really isnt so bad. My Dr, allows for chicken breast and salad once a day so there is a little variety.

I am feeling like I have lost more---clothes are swimming on me.

So now we have the countdown. 4 more days. Tuesday I am going to see Josh Groban the night before surgery---then have to drive to NY to drop off my friend then back home. Hospital call is at 6:00 AM! lol Guess I can sleep in surgery!

I am trying to take things a little at a time and not get too wound up. I have too many things to look forward to in the weeks after surgery. I have a huge reunion on Saturday and Vacation Bible School I am working at the following two weeks. Then its back to teaching in Sept. Weight loss will come along for the ride.

Hope the wait is bearable for everyone else. All the best,

Linda

Yay!

Today sucks. I want to eat. I feel depressed and don't want to go anywhere or do anything because EVERYTHING reminds me of food. Feels like when I quit smoking 8 years ago. Trying to fill my time with things but too down about it to want to do anything. I have tons of food here that I would love to munch on but won't, absolutely won't, so i'm doing well in that aspect at least. But this sucks. I just made myself a chicken salad for the first time, and it's pretty darn good, I'm hoping that will fill a gap.

Hey Banders!!! I'm on day 3 of Opti fast, it's okay maybe I thought it was going to be sooo bad it's actually better. Last night while kids sat for diner I had chicken boillion, it was sooo Delish lol I never had just a bullion cube before and it tasted amazing. My dad came over with of all things pizza for my daughter, he is the best dad/ grandfather but a complete enabler and growing up in an Italian family where we had several kinds of bread at all times didn't help my eating habits. So back to the pizza, I go to warm it up, smell it, okay I took a bite.... Then spit it out! Major victory for me!!!

Wishing all the other Aug banders well!!! Tmrw is August and we start, see many of you Post Op!!! Stay strong!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
