So I was banded 6/20 and am doing great. Hardly any pain, i'm not even taking my pain meds anymore. Every now and then though I gt this really sharp pain in the middle of my chest. It comes and goes quickly, but I just don't know what it is. Is it gas pain? Is everything ok? Any input would be nice. Thanks so much.

It sounds like it could be gas. Gas pains sometimes come and go quickly and sometimes they last for a while. I found that the best way for me to move the gas out was to walk...walk....walk. It is good to see that you are doing well. Welcome to the boards.

They gave you Pain Meds for a reason ! I would take them, and see if that helps the pain.

The whole band system, tubing and all stems from the top of the stomach, down to around the Belly Button.

Anything can hurt in there.

I was having pains like that too and wanted to sit down, then I read that the best thing was to walk... and it helps! I also burp like a sailor now.... doesn't matter what I eat, I belch.

When I had pains like that after surgery it was because I had to burp really bad, but my nerves were all wacko from being swollen and having surgery; so it felt really different than that urge normally would. Usually walking it out would help, or leaning over the counter and trying to burp (I learned that from someone on this forum).

I'm so glad you're doing so well after surgery! That's awesome :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
