For the first six days after surgery I will have my mother and husband with me. Then if I'm feeling okay and don't have any complications I may stay at my vacation home for 2 weeks more, without them. I have extended family within 20 minutes of vacation home, and neighbors who are ready to help me if needed.

Should I be reconsidering this? I expect I'll be weak until start eating more foods, and 3 years ago I had gall bladder removed laparascopically so I'm familiar with pain and physical restrictions post-surgery.

I personally had my surgery on a Thursday and Monday was Memorial Day and went back to work on Tuesday. Didn't move real fast but now I have been doing Water aerobics for 3 weeks... Take all the time you want but I am sure you will be fine alone.

If you're not taking care of anyone else, or any pets that need a lot of care, that sounds just fine!

I think you'll be fine as long as you can rest. My mon slept over for four nights after surgery - I was a bit nervous about her leaving that next day - but it was all fine.

I stayed at moms my first night after surgery, but went home mid-day Friday and then back to work on a Monday. I was weak on MOnday, but made the day well. I think you will be fine.

I had my surgery on Tuesday, came home Wednesday, rested Thursday, and today being Friday I feel mostly great. I really only get discomfort if I'm swallowing something to quickly, so I'm really using minimal painkillers. I move slowly and I know I still need to be careful (especially about picking up heavy things) but I'm really pleased with how quickly I'm recovering.

Makes me much less afraid about Monday, when I'll be home alone with my two little boys again. ;)

For me everything was very managable after a few days. I took two weeks off work and I felt good enough that I could've gone back after 1 week.

i had surgery the 15th - came home the same day - my niece stayed the first night, but was on my own after that - no problems - but on the 17th had a bad spell - dizzy and light headed - thought i might throw up or pass out - had just taken a 20 min walk - i now think it was low BP - thankfully my son-in-law was here and he brought me cold wet towels and drinks and stuff - it passed - i teleworked on the 20-21st and went into the office on the 22 - had another low BP spell - really thought i should call an ambulance - but i didn't want to be embarrassed - looking at it now - embarrassed or dead which would you prefer - but i recovered - stopped taking BP meds and doing much better!!! Everyone is different and you need to take it as easy and as slowly as you need to ...

but can i go to beach house with you for a week - i will take care of you!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
