Greetings! I just made the big decision last night to schedule my banding for July 18 with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana, MX. Since my BMI is only 33% and I have no co-morbid conditions, I decided to be proactive and lose the extra 70 pounds, instead of gaining another 30 so my insurance would pay for it in the US. Dr. Ortiz came highly recommended.

This morning, I have begun my pre-op diet and am expected to lose 10 pounds in the next 3.5 weeks. That's about 3.5 pounds per week, which seems somewhat unlikely. Can anyone tell me if the surgeons will really cancel your surgery if you only lose 5 or 6 pounds? I'm a tiny bit concerned about flying to CA only to be told I cannot have the surgery.

I look forward to participating in this forum for support as I make the journey to a healthy body. Lap banding is the only thing in the last few years that has given me any reasonable hope of losing their extra weight.

Hi! If you're self pay I truly can't imagine a doctor cancelling your surgery because you didn't lose enough weight.

Thanks for the response. I did make it through DAY 1 of the pre-op and was greeted with a loss on the scale this morning. Maybe it won't be as hard as I imagined.

Rachel, Thanks for your response. I made it through Day 1 of pre-op diet and did lose a couple pounds in 1 day. Maybe it won't be as hard as I was telling myself.

Thanks for the encouragement. I don't quite know exactly what to expect from my body right now.
