Berry 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Hi, I guess I should have checked in with my Insurance company before deciding to go ahead with the Lapband surgery. I found out today that Blue Cross doesn't cover the Lapband surgery but it does cover the gastic bypass surgery. I really didn't want to go the gastic bypass route. Has anyone else had a problem with their Insurance covering the cost? Thanks, Sherri
magirl 0 Posted February 20, 2006 Hi, I had my lap band surgery Oct 21,2005 at NE Medical in Boston. They took Blue Cross and they were excellent in assisting with any insurance concerns I had. They even sent me a refund check for my one of my co-pays for my mandatory councilling visit because they fought to get Blue Cross to cover it. They rock. bandayed 0 Posted February 23, 2006 I, too have BCBS -- HMO Blue and my surgery was covered too. Did you speak directly to the company? Don't rely on what the medical center is telling you, call Blue Cross.. My only not covered expense was the psychiatrist and $500 program fee
madcow 0 Posted February 28, 2006 Yeah - I also have BCBS/PPO and had no problem getting covered at Tufts-NEMC. The OCC took care of everything.
Feel2Young2B40 0 Posted March 1, 2006 Hi! From what I've seen, it's the exception not to have problems with insurance companies. I was fortunate that mine covered all but $250.00 surgery fee and then covers my fills at $35.00 co-pay. I would call the insurance company and ask to speak to one of the supervisors to discuss what exactly they received from the doctor and if there was anything missing. Do as much homework as you can in terms of finding out what they need and require for coverage. You may also have to write a letter depending on what they say but make sure you get everything in writing so if at a later date you meet the requirements you have all the back up and proof you need. Good luck and keep plugging away at them!!!
