Insurance woes

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I guess I should have checked in with my Insurance company before deciding to go ahead with the Lapband surgery. I found out today

that Blue Cross doesn't cover the Lapband surgery but it does cover the gastic bypass surgery. I really didn't want to go the gastic bypass route.

Has anyone else had a problem with their Insurance covering the cost?

Thanks,

Sherri

Hi,

I had my lap band surgery Oct 21,2005 at NE Medical in Boston. They took Blue Cross and they were excellent in assisting with any insurance concerns I had. They even sent me a refund check for my one of my co-pays for my mandatory councilling visit because they fought to get Blue Cross to cover it.

They rock.

I, too have BCBS -- HMO Blue and my surgery was covered too. Did you speak directly to the company? Don't rely on what the medical center is telling you, call Blue Cross.. My only not covered expense was the psychiatrist and $500 program fee

Hi! From what I've seen, it's the exception not to have problems with insurance companies. I was fortunate that mine covered all but $250.00 surgery fee and then covers my fills at $35.00 co-pay. I would call the insurance company and ask to speak to one of the supervisors to discuss what exactly they received from the doctor and if there was anything missing. Do as much homework as you can in terms of finding out what they need and require for coverage. You may also have to write a letter depending on what they say but make sure you get everything in writing so if at a later date you meet the requirements you have all the back up and proof you need.

Good luck and keep plugging away at them!!!

Glad that I have bc/bs I know they require now to have labs done before surgery and send them the results...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
